Any recommended tuners for MX5 in Sydney?

Postby bin » Fri Nov 13, 2009 9:47 pm

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to the MX5 scene. I've got an NA6 with a 1.8L motor with forged pistons in it running 12:1 compression. (previous owner claims)

Currently, I feel the car runs way too rich as the exhaust fumes do not smell "right", and i only get about 230-250kms from a full tank on premium fuel. The car comes with an adaptronic ECU and I was wondering if anyone could recommend someone who is really experienced with tuning MX5s located in Sydney.

Also, I've attached pics of the car. If anyone knows more about the car's background like who built the motor or which garage worked on the car before, it'd be great if you could let me know.

The car is known around here but I can't remember who did the work.
Mania tune the adaptronic, might be worth giving them a call.

Thanks mate, I'll ring them up after the weekend!

Would you happen to know anything else about the car? Like what else has been done to it?

Found this thread back when Zi was trying to sell it. Not sure how much of the stuff is still on it, but should help.

12:1 compression? My understanding 11:1 compression requires some sort of race fuel.

Ricol Performance at Peakhurst - ask for Colin. They have been tuning my race car for over 2 years now and have tuned many turbo and non-turbo MX5s. They have also tuned the Adaptronic as well as Haltech and Motec etc etc. 11:1 comp is quite safe on pump 98 - if the tuner knows what to do.

Thanks guys for all that info. It appears that this car used to have ITBs, but Zi removed them when he sold the car. This should explain why the car seems to be running rich. It seems the guy who bought the car off Zi didn't take good care of it. From his sales thread, Zi mentioned he put in a new steering rack not long ago, however, when I got the car, the steering rack was leaking and there was very little oil left in the resevoir.

Appart from that, the guards have been damaged from DIY flaring to fit 0 offset wheels at the rear and +15 offset at the front. Resonator welds in the exhaust seem to have broken off and there's a bad rattle. Also, I believe the clutch release bearing its very worn as every time i depress the clutch I can hear a slight rattle coming from the gearbox.

Anyway, I will fix up all these issues bit by bit. First will probably be a wheel alignment and a tune. Thanks for the recommendations guys. I will give Mania and Ricol performance a call once my exams are over.
