timing belt whine?

trader wrote:Surprised as to how many have this problem. Today is a new day so not giving up just yet. Like you blehbear I got all new stuff from UK parts - my belt is a gates (not blue). I'm going to pull off the drive belts first to make sure it's not the water pump, then reset the tension pulley. If it is the same as before I'm going to move it about 2mm from where its now set.

My timing belt is a gates belt too, and it whines for the first few weeks, went away after that...

timing belt whine?

Postby trader » Thu Nov 12, 2009 3:53 pm

Okay--first prize goes to 1r5 who picked the tight fan belt...second prize to Dave at Carco exhaust who didnt think it sounded quite like a timing belt whine. Wooden spoon to me who was going to take the belts off after the first attempt and didnt back his own judgement! Also take back what I said about the tension spring. I may now have a belt that's too loose but I'm not going back in there. Thanks fo rall help maybe some people with whines should also look at fan/AC belts.
NB SE, NA 1.8.
