Fuel Consumption

Hey everyone,

Is it normal to only be getting 235 km (around that) per full tank on a '94 NA8 (Eunos) with about 76000 km? I have a feeling something is wrong as there was a time I was able to get close to 300km per tank, then it went down to around 260 km, and then when I filled it up this afternoon I was only on 235km (and the tank was pretty much empty as i was able to put 39 litres in).
With regards to engine mods, it is pretty much stock (as far as I am aware) other than a pod filter. Also, I don't drive around launching it everywhere so I don't think the driving is what is using the excessive amounts of fuel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely not normal. I drive spiritedly ... everywhere, short trips etc and still manage 350 km+ to a tank (usually around 11L/100km)

'95 NA8. Intake mods and cat back exhaust. Hasn't made a difference in Fuel consumption. I'm still getting about 8.2-8.5L/100km consistently. That's with giving it a good hammering through the gears when I go onto the M5 =D About twice a week, otherwise its normal driving. Spirited drives doesn't change it that much, not going through the national park anyway.

standardish NA8 you should be getting around 400-450 km per tank.

400ish if you do lots of short trips with launching everywhere.

Blocked or dirty air filter? Is there a duck stuck in the intake pipe?

I don't think there is a duck in the intake pipe, but I'll have a look at the air filter, probably is dirty from those previous dust storms (fuel consumption was still crap before the storms though). I have noticed that after I go for a drive and park the car in the garage you can definitely smell fuel so if that helps... Anyone have any other ideas as to what could be wrong and if so how to fix it? It would be awesome to get over 400km per tank

If you go for a drive and you smell fuel, you may have a fuel leak :shock:

maybe in the tubing or around the engine

I go for a good run in mine and all I smell is hot engine smell, never fuel.

Just had another thought check your hose clamps to the tank, I had this problem with my boat and the fuel was evaporating, tightened them up and no more problem.

I am going to fit the stock airbox on the weekend to see if that makes any difference. Old Dude - I don't smell petrol when I'm driving around, only if the car has been sitting in the garage for a while after a drive. If changing the air filter doesn't really do anything then you might be right in thinking there might be a leak or something, in which case I'll look into it. Thanks for the suggestions

Sorry 7Hazi thats what I meant, you shouldn't be smelling petrol when the car is just sitting there unless it is escaping from some where.
