Installing a voodoo knob (properly)

ok....some people might laugh their heads off about the topic's title.

I bought a texture black voodoo from Mania on the weekend and it felt great.

However, i noticed that the voodoo doesn't go as deep as the OEM so there's now this gap between the bottom of the knob and the top of the leather bit (is it call Benny's Boot?).

I can just pull it up every now and then and the gap will disappear but obviously that's not really a fix.

Is there something (like a ring) that i can get to hold it up at the right height so that the gap will be covered?...

Yes there is.

MX5 Mania used to sell them but I can't see them on their website at the moment.

Voodoo used to make those trim rings as they called them, but don't anymore.

My Voodoo screwed all the way down - the thread is tapped virtually all the way through the knob, so the knob actually sits lower than stock. I think the top of the gearstick is only a few mms below the top of the knob.

Has Voodoo Bob changed the design, or do some models have a different design so they sit higher?

there's two versions, there's a larger one (which Mania sells) and a slightly smaller one (which I dont think is made anymore)

the larger one doesnt sit flat on the leather boot usually, and unfortunately the spacer ring doesnt fit on the larger knob, only the smaller one.

in saying that though, the trim ring isnt that complicated, it would take someone with a metal lathe only a few minutes to make.

I put a short piece of 13mm poly reticulation pipe over the shaft and placed a washer on top, the boot sits on the washer just below the gear knob (I have a Skunk 2). I am a dodgy bastard!
