Want: Great sound

Hey guys. I'm interested in making my nb8b sound a bit better. Just wanting to know wat everyone would do in achieving this. eg: exhaust change, air intake change etc. I dont want to change the actual performance of the car in any way due to P plates, so has anyone got any ideas of wat to do? wat have u done? any posts of the actual exhaust note would be great as i am not sure exactly wat im after.

the cheapest mod would be an air intake. there have been plenty of different ones on this on the nb8b. the hot side which has the intake plenum going alongside the radiator, and the short cold side, which fits snug behind the passenger headlight. with an open pod filter, the intake is fairly tame unless u give it a bit.

exhaust would be pretty subjective; everyone likes different exhaust notes. i like my SP motorsport 2.25" note. it sounds beautiful at ideal and even better at WOT. it is only droney if you travel on the highway (which i don't do too much of), which you are bound to run into with most exhausts

I've got the n*power muffler and I think it's pretty good. There is no drone and the sound is sporty but not overpowering. And best of all it's $245 shipped to your door.

budget?

Lots of free noise to be had with the standard airbox, take off the snorkel it'll have a bit more noise under WOT, then you can drill holes as well for more.

I tried this and lost a lot of low down torque. Worth a try though

probs a few hundred bucks. nothin major just seein if there any special tricks that ppl had. thanks for all the suggestions so far. keep em comin.

ok I think ive decided. might just put a new air filter in. What would u suggest (nb8b)? mainly looking for a better noise, not performance. are they easy to install?

air filter will cost you upto $50, and sound great on cars with stock exhausts.

Best to get a 3Aracing/simota air filter, as they have been proven to be one of the best for flow and filtration (also one of the cheapest too!).

with the NB's, all you need to do is take the airbox off, and clamp the air filter onto the exposed end of the AFM (black box on a circle with an inprinted caution sign) and your good to go, its really that easy. Though you might want to make a bracket to hold the filter and pipe up, but thats about it.

But not that cheap...

Replacing the airbox with some intake or pod is good sound wise, as is an exhaust (though the exhuast drone can be suck) do intake first, its best bang for buck sound wise

Where would i get a 3Aracing/simota air filter? can u buy from auto shops eg: autobarn etc. Are there any particular specs i have to look out for to fit the nb8b? So there will be a noticeable change in sound? I will probs do this.. Ill keep u updated with wat i do.

Autobahn, Repco, et al will sell K&N pod filters which will suit just fine. Those other brands will probably be ok too but might not be as easy to find. Spec wise, you just have to make sure that the rubber neck of the filter is the same size as the afm intake so that it will fit over the afm properly. just measure the o.d of the afm intake and get a filter with the same diameter outlet.
