MX5 MANIA's 'GURGLR' NA6 TURBO

Postby MX5 MANIA » Sat Oct 17, 2009 11:04 am

Most people would remember this car as it has been around for years changing hands many times until David got his hands on this beast.

Its now tuned with an Adaptronic ECU and ready for the club track day on Monday!.

AVO Turbo Kit with a highflowed GT28 Turbo pushing out through a 2.5" System with HKS rear muffler, PWR front mount intercooler and radiator keeping everything cool!..

Heaps of HKS Goodies including Coilovers, Turbo Timer, Boost Controller and an awesome badge on the back :) Custom rear bumper with air diffuser. Very light 17" Lenso Wheels wrapped in Achilles Tyres

Heaps of money has been thrown at it over the years and it keeps getting better...

The cross-bar on the strut brace that connects the two towers to each other directly (like most other braces) has this been cut-off?, or did Carbing (which it looks like it's made by) actually make this specific type?, ie. minus the usual cross-bar?

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Very impressive car! But what was the story with the laptimes on Monday? Last time I checked (4:10pm) David's best was 1:13.58 and the "estimate" shown on the grid sheet was 1:10. Sasso's best was 1:12.44 in Keira, also an NA6T, and there were quite a few naturally-aspirated cars that were quicker too. Looks like David might have had some teething problems. :?

The timesheets also indicated David's car was a 1999 model entered in the "non-road-registered" class, yet it has carrying NSW license plates. Mistaken identity? Typo?

Howdy!!

Yes the car has some issues that still need to be fixed.. So many dodgy bits cut and spliced all over the place from the original build so it wont run right..
I think we will replace the whole harness, fuel pump etc at some point and start from scratch....

Re the timesheets and the year model... We were going to take 'GOLDIE' however it would probably be doing 20 minute laps as it is flinstone powered at the moment... so with a quick email to Mr. Hicks we entered 'GURGLR' as the fill in...

Regards
Ajay

Thanks for the explanation Ajay. Sorry to hear about the problems you're having. I have my own to sort out this weekend too. My NA6 feels like it's now running on three cylinders and I just discovered that a lead had worked loose from the coil! :x

I love the wheels and tyres on the car they look fantastic. Are they the 606 Lightweight Wheels listed on the mania website?
What brakes is the car running?

Hey Gerard..

They are just lenso S2 superlights 17x7" and are 7kg... The 606 Lightweights are wider they are a 17x7.5 and are 7.5kg's...

Im also a MASSIVE fan of these wheels.. that why i pinched a set for the Mania red car :D

Car is just running the Wilwood big brake kit :) It did have AP Racing brake kit but David put them on his black car

Cheers

Gday Guys, does anyone have a picture of Gurlgrs old Airbox set up from circa 2003/4 or thereabouts? i remember it had a pretty substantial looking fabricated airbox different to what is on there now. Cheers
