Mazdaspeed shocks, rubber boots...

Postby emilmh » Tue Oct 20, 2009 10:21 pm

Hi guys,

I have Mazdaspeed (4 way damper adjustable, lime green colour) shocks fitted to my 1990 NA roadster by the previous owner in Japan. The rubber boots are ripped apart so would standard boots/bump stop set up fit? I believe the mazdaspeed to be the same height as standard, so I am hoping that the original rubber boots will fit.

On a second note, does anyone know if they are rebuildable? The shocks seem to be working fine now, but i dont know how old they are, and want to know when they will be on their way out.

Cheers,
Emil

I appreciate your response, but is it possible to elaborate a little more on how you know this? Do you have Mazdaspeed shocks yourself?

manufactured to same spec/size as oem spec/size.

boots are the same.

i have had a set rebuild that fitted a cba8p astina, i doubt the na6ce ones would be any different.

Double check that the bump stops have the same dimensions. Bump stop length and stiffness is quite important on MX5's.

Where abouts did you have them rebuilt and do you know how much (did you get them all rebuilt or just individual ones?)?

I've just taken out one of the shocks and its leaking :(

As reference for other people, I got a quote of $220 to rebuild one shock absorber. Given that Mania sell a set of KYB AGX shocks for a under $900, I think i may just be better off waiting a little and then maybe buying a whole new set.

TSR on Moss St in Slacks Creek did mine. And it cost $880 to rebuild all 4. If I was to do it all over again, I'd just import a 2nd hand set from Japan for $500ish. That why you'd get springs and hats also.
