Converting NB to a coupe....??

Postby nfs13b » Thu Oct 08, 2009 11:16 am

Hey All,

I have a NB (pics here - http://www.my105.com/classified.asp?id=12409) that I am going to cut up and turn into a full drag car. I got it with one of Lightyears first carbon hardtops and I dont really think it is up to the job I want it to do. The latches to hold the hardtop on are just stripes of metal sikaflex'd to the hardtop and a bolt holding screwed in where the mounting tab was.

I was then going to just buy a new hard top but I cant really do that because of the way the rollcage was done, it doesnt allow the front latches to work as it interferes....

so I then asked my spraypainter/panelbeater friend if he could make me a metal roof that could be welded and permanent, he said he could cut the roof of something else and modify it to fit the car.... sounds like a lot of work...

So my question is, has anyone ever converted to a metal roof, and if so did you design it yourself or cut it of something (like a 121 or starlet) and mold it to fit...

Or anyone got any other ideas I have not thought of.... (yes I suppose I could cut out the rollcage and start that again...)

Thanks
Lee

Get the http://www.autokonexion.com/ kit and bond the roof on permanently?

I don't think that one would clear the roll bar as it sits at stock height at the front.

I saw a hardtop which had a hump in it to clear the roll cage.
I think one of the NSW racers has it.

Perhaps start a thread in the motorsport section and see if anyone can remember it.

The only issue I have with it clearing the roll cage is the front latches would hit.... need to make metal brackets that screw in..

Agree... there's no visible lines between the roof and the A-pillar.

I think this is the rare coupe.
