Hi all,

Im looking at up dating my alarm system and have looked at few types but still undecided.

If owners could advise what they think is the best ones as i just need basic alarm with typical boot bonnett switches ,central locking and interior sensor

Anything that meets insurance standards will be more than enough. Talk to your local car audio shops and see what they have to offer.

instead of going the whole hog, there are upgrade alarm systems for cars that have power windows and central locking already. don't be fooled into buying the whole system unless you know exactly what you need.

i got a mongoose m80 on mine. it's a 3 point immobiliser and has the bonnet and boot sensors. my alarm guy said if your car has the factory immobiliser, that's fine, and just to get the mongoose sms tracking device. it sends you an sms when someone breaks into your car. can possibly switch your car off when you send it an sms too, i think.

Like Sliq I got the Mongoose m80au except I got gps tracking as well. This allows you to track your car at any given time through the use of an internet capable mobile phone. The GPS unit uses a sim card to communicate and has three key main operating features: 1) Track Mode - allows you to track the vehicle to find its location, date, time speed etc at any given time, 2) Monitor Mode - allows you to monitor audio in the car through your mobile phone and a hidden microphone in the car and 3) Alarm Mode - monitors your vehicle alarm and battery status. You can also do other stuff like set up parameters so that the car cannot leave a set square of coordinates i.e. You can set it up so that when you drop your car off at a mechanic, the car cannot leave a set range (e.g. 200m) from a set origin; in this case, the mechanics workshop. If it does, the owner is alerted by sms and phone stating the vehicles current location, speed, time etc.

The GPS unit was a little over $500 on top of the alarm/immobiliser. Overall, an excellent system but I was unlucky to get it installed by a careless installer resulting in over a grands worth of damage to the car. I would HIGHLY recommend speaking to a trusted auto electrician about systems they recommend as well as getting them to do the installation. Fiddling with a cars electronics is not a job for untrained audio installers.

i was thinking about getting that GPS tracking unit jimmy mentioned.. until the salesman told me how much it costed

i have a kill switch on mine also. cheapest security unit you can get.

Put a VDO in mine, Supposed to be Aus. made. Fitted it myself quite easily. Comes with everything you asked for.

Hi all,

As per previous posts I am upgrading my alarm but does anyone have a wiring diagraphm for the Mazda Alarm so we can make sure we de install correctly and not kill electrics within......... I have the booklet on operational / owners manual. The one is the remote with three different size blue buttons.

I can highly recommend this guy, Jurge.

I've been using him for years, and he does a great job with stereos and alarms, and he comes out to you.
He's not the cheapest, but he does a really good job, and isn't frightened of those really hard jobs either.

one who does a cheap job, but not necessarily neat and tidy, from what i hear. he comes out to you.

and someone who also does a cheap job, a bit more dearer than the above mentioned, but does a nice clean job. he's also anal and thorough. but you gotta go out to him, based at Preston/past liverpool.

While we're on this topic, anyone know of an alarm system that comes with keyless entry and can integrate the car keys with the alarm buttons? (i.e. 1 big key that has everything)

Doesn't necessarily have to have those flick out fancy European style but wouldn't mind knowing how much more one of those would cost.

Benny and Sliq - would those guys you recommend stock parts as well? (So i don't have to source it seperately for him to install...)

What's the most affordable way to put a sim in those alarm units, buy a prepaid and keep topping it up? Looking at the virgin mobile site that would cost you at least $60 a year to maintain yeah?
