Do'nt fool yourself.
You know very well that if you buy the vinyl roof, the savings will just go up in smoke anyway.

I agree with Benny. What might cost you less money now may cost you more money down the track. You gotta think long term.

Why not go for the cheaper Sonnedecke Canvas - better than vinyl but cheaper than Mohair - my top cost $601.00 delivered from the united states.

Here you go .... http://shop.ebay.com.au/daveshouze/m.ht ... =12&_rdc=1

His tops are manufactured by KIA Auto Tops in the US.

Mine came with new rain rail, cables, Tan Cloth - 3 years on and it is still in perfect condition.

ok cool

it looks like the top is different to the original top correct?

the rear of the top where the window is being all slick etc

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-200 ... ccessories

Anyway if I was to get the one in the link + a few upgrades

Top - $239
Tension Cables - $35
Stayfast Cloth - $120
Heated Glass - $30

$424US which is Under $500AUD

I won't get the rain rail as I replace mine sometime last year already

Should i get the Headlining for $165 as well? hmmmm

Don't get the headlining if you have Roll Bars or Style Bars. I bought 2 tops (one for a friend) my one took less than 3 weeks the other one came 3 days later.
The rain rail was supplied fitted and is a flexible type that won't end up becoming brittle like the original does, the top is different from the original - instead of two piece it is one piece, on my NB8A I could no longer fold the roof all the way down flat on the parcel shelf so had to remove my windblocker, which was no big concern as I wanted to build a custom windblocker which sits neatly under my style bars. You can see pics of it under the garage section on the site.

This is my new top out of the box

If you check out the pic of my style bar on the garage section you can see just how it fits, the one piece soft top does not "double fold" like the two piece does, it requires another (approx) 15mm or so in forward travel as it lays down on the deck.
Although the extra room is only required in the middle section (the very top of the window glass) it is also likely that you could just relocate the windblocker a little more forward - a roll bar is unlikely to be an issue when it comes to dropping the top down.

mm think I'll have a problem with that then hmmmm

if the top sits closer toward the front of the car it means its going to sit on the rollbar legs more which means the top might not fold all the way down (hard to explain)

I got my stayfast roof from daveshouze, good people to deal with. I heard they went out of business though... :?

Anyways mine cost me about $400 all up delivered, with plastic window (to clear rollbar)..

This is my replacement thread: http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=29161&hilit=stayfast

It has been on the car for two years now, and still looks brand spanking new.
