yep... NB8A here and the cup holders are useless you're roaming on the freeway and you don't have to change gears...
the Springs might not be a bad idea... combo it with the shelves from eBay maybe it can sit on the top shelf? (not sure whether it'll hold the weight though)

Ideas on using the interior space more effectively...
I have one of those bags that attaches to my style bar (FRENZY) and I leave it in the car all the time, It holds heaps has handles so you can tote it into the hotel if needed and has the added advantage of filling the gap between blocker and the shelf cutting out all breeze.
On a trip to Tassie we used it and the boot and had plenty of gear for a week in cool weather including SWMBO"s beauty case and hairdryer.In the boot we just vac it and use it as a suitcase and pack a fold flat overnight bag on top to transport what we want into our accommodation..The passsenger can also have a small soft bag under legs against the seat.
I"m surprised at how much you can fit in.
