yes...that about sums it up
though cheap is relative
found some s2000 leather seats in allegedly perfect condition for $1100...cheap? moot point but that seems on the money...i assume extra costs to fit them, but there is info on the US site that suggests that it isnt too hard to acheive

trying to find seats that suit my taste..i would like extra comfy brown /beige leather seats that fit both my arse and the car perfectly.....had imagined at this moment of research re possabilities out side the square that there might be a better range of options and price if i look outside mazda..or rx7
im not the first to have thought of doing this...see US site....and also the after market seats such as recaro/bride/cobra etc are outside the brand ...but they are expensive or inadequate
truth is that i can live with the seats as they are...but it is essentially my hobby so im interested to consider the options out there...
enjoy

hey all - i'm starting on the search for some new seats, i've been looking on the Recaro website and i'll be going to a few different people to try out seats to see what fits well (thanks Thunderbird!) - but i'm wondeirng if anyone has dimensions of what will / won't fit. I have found the link before on Flyin Miata but there is only the one Recaro seat listed...
Should I be looking at Sparco?
Any other brands?
thanks !

ideally something really comfortable for a daily - I have not done as many track days as I want to, I mainly want something that's really comfortable...
I was looking at this, but trying to find someone in AU with it might be an issue... apparently they are similar to that which is in an EVO...
Sizing I think is here... size chart.
Hey philz, was the base width the size of the seat to fit the rails, or the size of the width of the tunnel which houses the seat (I think it's gonna be too big!)
oh, then there is the MASSIVE weight (well, if you want bells'n'whistles you are going to pay for it!) - but the idea of integrated cooling system would be a nice touch - the standard seats get really hot in summer !
does anyone know of others who have an integrated cooling system? Do they work? Is it worth it, or should I save the weight? Quick google search has found this in America... maybe get a standard Recaro without bells'n'whistles (like motors that you won't be able to use anyway) and just install these?

well your not going to get much better without spending big bucks.
How about going the same route as MX5CHIC did?

Pretty cheap for newish seats.

ahh I know what you mean about the harness holes, that's why I've swayed away from them for the stock seatbelt.

Look at seat width to fit the tunnel rather than rails.
From specs it looks like they MAY fit, dont quote me.
Even though the optimal specs are 19.5", I've seen seat which are 20.5" wide fit, and with wings wider than 21", so really the only way to tell, is to physically fit them into the car.
Maybe look at Mazdaspeed
(thanks to Dan for me stealing your pics)
Nice and comfy seats.
And to answer your questions about cooling I have no idea. Maybe use the aircon? lol
Personally I do no see the real use for it in an mx5.
edit: just saw what car you have, maybe look at ditching those leather seats if it's too hot.

Rupewrecht aka Dan can help.
He actually has quite a few in stock now @ Melb.

You will need mx5 seat "rails/brackets", which you can also source from him.

do note that the Mazdaspeed seat bases apparently sit slightly higher than stock.
