Stupid PPF Bolts!

Why do my PPF bolts keep falling off! :evil:

Heard some clattering noises last night, and when i got home it appears the rearmost bolt holding the PPF to the diff had fallen out.. not sure why, i seem to remember doing them up spectacularly tight

Any ideas? Loctite?

Also if you are reading this russelb, will be around to pick up another ppf bolt from you tommorow (i swear im your biggest customer for these things!)

"spectacularly tight" huh??.........probably overdone it & stretched the thread..........toss 'em away & bang some new ones in, using a torque wrench to specifications...... :wink:

Ask someone who should know - find out the torque and the right loctite to use.

I thought the torque settings on those were like 120 pounds... (thats kinda tight) And i Also thread locked them.

The PPF bolts that go though the diff are torqued > 200 pounds (thats kinda super tight)...

BF cheater bar would be needed for that.

What AJ said. New bolts torqued to the correct specification. If you over torque them you run the risk of cracking the PPF which is what happened in my car.

Thats not a big silver bolt around 25cm long? I cant remember just how many I had to replace in that damn thing...

Managed to avert buying a new one, went to the intersection at the end of my street where it made the noise and picked it up.

Too much of a bitch for me to bother putting it back in though so carco will be called upon

I'm surprised it lasted this long....we absolutely coated it in locktight, cos even torquing it to the right spec it would still undo...

Correct torque for those bolts is 87 - 91 ft-lb. If you did 120 ft-lb then you've probably stripped them. They're only 12mm bolts f'crissake.

Yay, Carco fixed the bolt along with a bunch of other stuff like a broken swaybar link...

Handles very noticeably better, my missus said she could tell even in the carpark.

Feels flatter, stiffer and doesn't creak over bumps anymore!

Thanks russell, I know it must drive you mental having to work on anything i have touched, but at least my screw ups keep me coming back

I had a 4 hour loctite conference at work last week about all their products and the different types of applications, For applications that have minimal metal ions such as stainless,alloy, and even galvanised steel a primer (loctite 7471)will be needed to actually cure the loctite solution otherwise it just wont work as it should.
