Pirelli Dragons

Hi, bought the 10 AE with Pirelli Drgons on it.....reasonable performance in the dry
Downright dangerous in the wet, hav e often lost traction at low speed, low revs turning corners
inflation is ok approx33PSI

if it rains where you live do not buy these!!!

Appears they are not so good regardless of the vehicle.

Have them on my N16 Pulsar Auto
They only just hang on in the dry.
In the wet you need to be very careful with how hard you prod the throttle while stability and cornering is marginal at best.

I have them on my NA, 195/50/15 38 offset and have had no problems in two years usage.
Spirited runs or just cruising.
And 5 or six laps of Winton but not at ten tenths
I think they are much better than the Yokahamas on my 14" wheels

I had P6000s...I honestly hated them, slightest bit of throttle in the wet, and WEEEE!!!!! Mind you the rubber was old and cracked....

That's the problem with this topic. Any tyres are rubbish when the rubber has had it, especially in the wet. DaveWA, are your tyres more than three years old? If so, they'll be stuffed by age now, no matter how good or bad they might have been new.

Somewere on the sidewall you'll find a little oval panel, with a number like 2607 stamped in it, where the first 2 numbers are the week of manufacture and second two are the year. So 2607 means the 26th week of 2007. What are yours?

I think the old and cracked bit might be your problem. I had P6000's on my NA for a while and even though the dry grip level was OK they were very communicative and easy to control when sliding which made for lots of fun. I found their wet weather performance to be excellent though, probably the best wet weather tyres I've ever used. They were also the noisiest tyres I've ever used. I thought all my wheel bearings were gone at one stage.

tyres are 6 months old barely worn,
I agree if the tyres are old/ worn you cannot make a call...

seriously these are basically new tyres and they are lethal in the wet and OK in the dry

I think they want the date they were made. The date of fitment is irrelevant.

I'm afraid Ben and Boags are right. When you buy big brands like Bridgies, Michelins or Yokies then you usually get fresh tyres. With some of the less common ones in Oz you can get very stale tyres.

I've just seen this thread. I actually posted a while back about the Dragons in the large thread about "what you got and for how much". I run 32psi all round in these.

These tyres ARE dangerous in the wet, you will have to drive like a granny, otherwise you'll have the back end out in a split second, and little hope of getting it back.
I got a set put on at wheels world in December last year, and when I was driving back a few days later for hub-centric rings on wet roads, I nearly completely lost the back end doing about 40. Thankfully there was no traffic and managed to reign it back in, but ever since i've made a point to be super cautious driving on these in the wet.

The dry grip performance is decent once the tyres are warm, but otherwise they're only quite average at best. They're reasonably predictable once you learn their limits, but they aren't anywhere near as forgiving as adrenalins once they let go, and are generally relatively lacking in terms of grip for the $$.

I won't be going near them again. I'm literally hanging out for summer days to wear them to buggery and be rid of them.

I had these on the NA a couple of years ago. Fresh tyres. Dry grip was fine but wet was below average to poor. It was rarely dríven in wet conditions.

yea happy to tell you as soon as I get my car back from the panel beaters

I understand what you are saying about Date of Manufacture etc

so when the front end is repaired ill look

and I do believe the dragons played a part in the accident
