GReddy Japan (aka Trust) also sell a dual outlet muffler for the NC:

And your local friendly GReddy distributor can source them via GReddy Australia

I have one and love it!

ORLY?! Care to comment any further on:
- noise under constant throttle and load
- any appreciable weight difference

Anything else they may be of use to this thread? I shouldn't have to prompt, mister *drums fingers on desk* :D

I'll have to do some more recordings and upload them to the Exhaust sound database

Under constant throttle it makes a nice deep sound. Not noticeably louder than the stock system, but a much nicer sound.

Under load the sound is EPIC. My car now sounds the way I believe a sports car should, not that tinny sound it had before.

I also get little pops and crackles both on tip-in and on overrun, making gear changes just that little bit more fun :)

No idea really. I wouldn't have thought it would be too different from the stock muffler.

Pity I didn't get a dyno before/after run, would have been nice to know how many extra killer wasps I unleashed :)

You know, in all honesty, the impression of extra horsepowers is better than whether or not you actually have any. And if you're getting crackle on overrun, well that is worth the price of admission alone!!

I have noticed you get little pops through the stock exhaust on trailing throttle when you are giving it the beans, but you feel them more then actually hear them. Your review of the Trust muffler puts it at the top of my wants list :D

I was lucky enough to hear @ndrews HKS exhaust at full song @ Sandown last week end, and let me say, it sounds awesome!
Good on you @ndrew for taking such a nice car to the track. I wish I took video of all the beautiful noises trackside.

So L & G

i started this thread to see what advice there might be about extractors/mufflers. Thanks for the comment.

I have now installed IL motorsports 4-2-1 header with keeping the std muffler. Let me say whoo hoo! (a technical term) these things are like having a good coffee after 1 year without any caffiene! The car revs like I thought it should and to me it seem like it has much more torque (not talk) I am looking forward to 19/10 to test my theories. Bad luck Paul. if it is dry
cheers

Who did you get you're IL headers through? Also how much did it set you back?

I got them via Mx5parts uk. see http://www.mx5parts.co.uk

They cost 211 pounds, plus freight of around 80 pounds. The fitting is a bugger and will take about 4 hours to get the old ones out, then about 1 hour to get the new ones in. Well worth every cent! Zooom

When you look at the NC exhaust system, header and midpipe are certainly where most of the restrictions are, and by all accounts the biggest real gains are to be had here (in HP/$ terms at least).

Sweet! 19/10 is shaping up. Will be looking out for you there monte5. Keen to hear the results of your header install first hand.

Kakimoto Racing - Kakimoto・R dual muffler for NC

Image

Rated at 91db - reports suggest it's for the louder muffler buyer, but sound is excellent.

That looks like it might be the Fujitsubo Legalis R muffler. Russ in Japan has one - best to contact him. On his blog he has commented:

Russ wrote:The Fujitsubo Legalis R may be legal but it is a waste of time. 2kg heavier for 2hp more. Why the previous owner chose it, I have no idea.

Keep in mind though, Russ can't really comment on sound compared with stock on his car, since he purchased the car with this exhaust on it. However he rolls with the R16 NC Club in Japan, so perhaps he has been able to make some comparisons.
