NB8B Boot unable to be opened - Help appreciated

There's an American forum post that shows where to drill the hole to open the boot on an NA, but the poster goes on to say that the "dimples" are in a different position on an NB, not sure if they had to remove the bumper on the NA to expose the "dimples" too.
The best thing for me to do is have a look at another NB8B ( maybe remove the lock) and work out the best way to attack it. (how much are boot lids anyway?)

I just had a look at mine and as Okibi has suggested the best plan of attack is to drill in from behind the number plate. That will give you access to where the rod from the boot lock attaches to the latch. You will need a pretty long drill though. Unfortunately you cant remove the plastic bumper cover unless the boot lid is open so you will need to drill through the bumper cover and the rear panel of the car. If you measure up correctly and drill in the right place you wont trash your car to much. The number plate will hide the hole from the outside and a rubber gromet will seal up the boot again. The boffins at Mazda have managed to make the boot quite secure when deadlocked.

We tend to forget sometimes that anyone in Australia or the world can read this board, giving crims a leg up with instructions on how to break into locked boxes isn't a good idea

Ok, I shall not post it, but what if I send the info to some of the moderators to pass on to people with genuine need of the info?
Then again, I still need to get into my boot before anything can happen!!!!!
I still need to find out the exact location measurements where to drill, I don't want to turn the panel into swiss cheese.

Rather than simply drill, I would use a hole saw. A decent size, not necessarily big enough to get your hand in, but big enough to get some fingers in, and you are away.

Afterwards, a neat round or square patch glued (siliconed) and a can of pressure pack touchup paint, and you are done.

Similar thing happened to me, I locked my keys in the boot. After trying the lock with a screwdriver and failing, I opened the car by smashing the quarter light. Fortunately, I had not disconnected the remote release.

I now have a spare key screwed to the car in a very out of the way place. I hope like hell I never have to find it in the dark, or when it is raining, but I know that I can get into the car in an emergency.

lots of to and fro but what actually has Jaxom done to address the prob- been to the dealer, consulted a locksmith- is the car boot accessible from inside, consulted NRMA, checked the sponsors who are familiar with the build of the car? Most of us I suspect are simply guessing- surely it cannot be such an isolated case that there is no known sensible fix.

Pull the rear boot trim off your car Mr M and it'll be pretty obvious what needs to be done.

In summary, the rod connecting the boot lock and the latch has come adrift after the boot was dead locked. The internal release and the electric remote have been disabled after dead locking. The boot is full of stuff so there's no access from the cabin. The only way in is to drill a suitably sized hole from outside close to where the lock rod attaches to the latch and to push the latch out of the dead lock position. After that's done the boot can be opened via the internal release or the remote control fob. The rod can be re-attached and a rubber gromet or similar used to seal up the boot and all is well again. The secret of course is to drill the hole in the right position. Okibi has supplied top secret detailed instructions to do this so all should be sorted.
