Welding a diff is not as easy as it sounds either, Have done a few for the speedway and found that they have to be machined so that when it's welded the axles are running true otherwise Kaboom :D

I've had several diffs welded and never had to machine any of them.. amd ran them on bitumen circuits for 10 years without issues.
As mentioned earlier it more depends on the quality of the welding as to whether they go bang or not..

hrmmm still don't know what to do!

The nb (which i picked up yesterday!) is a stocka. So i thought id get some tyres/suspension/exhaust work before the driveline but went for a drive up to mt dandy last night and the diff was the biggest let down!

So i was thinking as a quick fix, CIG the diff n concentrate on other areas till i have a spare $1000 laying around for a 2 way!

FWIW, I wouldnt run a locked diff on the street.

Even ignoring safety issues, its an instant defect, and then you'll be up for the fine as well as buying an LSD anyway..

Besides, for a n/a motor, most of the wheelspin can be eliminated by suspension mods/adjustments as well as refinements to your driving style....

ok, I read it again.....
??
Yours went bang cos the axles werent true rather than any welding deficiencies??

My comment still applies, I never machined any of mine and they didnt go bang..

Or am I still missing your point...
