For me it's coilovers, transforms the handling and looks of a car both at the same time.

MX 5 plus roll bar, really stiffened up the rear end, and makes me feel safer to boot.

Another vote for Voodoo knob and wheel alignment.
I was quite pleased with improvement to brake feel with a master cylinder brace, and very impressed with the difference that adding Dynamat to the doors made - improved the music and gave the door a good solid feel/sound when closing it.

Wheels, coilovers, and cage.
Wheels scream for attention and are a "Wow what an improvement" aesthetics wise.
Coilovers transformed the car, feels alot more intouch with the road, adjustable and very firm.
And cage ... no more scuttle shake rigidy has been improved dramatically.

Wasn't this about budget mods? We all love our Teins and turbos, but they're not exactly what you'd call a budget modification

For me it was the timing advance (Free until you have to fill with 98 octane ...) - feels a little quicker and is certainly more responsive....
Oh yea, and the airbox mod .... 3 x 2" holes in the bottom of the airbox ....
no performance increase, but sounds great !
Bring on the budget mods !

If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour ... you're gonna see some serious s**t.

Fortunately my NC has an LSD as std, without it I could not have fitted the best mod, the heavier front & rear sway bars.
They have transformed the car!

"budget" everyone's is different. Seats aren't exactly cheap. I think the question is more about which single mod made the biggest difference so people that can't afford to mod the entire car can pick and choose the most effective mods.
For me the best mod has been tyres. Get a set of semi slicks like toyo R888, you won't go back. Big difference, and its not that expensive if you don't track the car. You have so much more confidence in the car, you know it can pretty much handle any corner at whatever speed you throw it at. Not to mention the massive difference in braking ability, the car just feels planted. Its a similar feeling to when you have a car with lots of power and you have the confidence that you can keep up with anything and that you have plenty of reserves if you need it.
I think seat, LSD and good brake pads closely follow. Otherwise favourite mod would definitely be the turbo but its not a mod you can do by itself like the others.
