MX-5 Factory in Ringwood

Went there as recommended on this forum. They're just too good. A girl at work drove up the bum of my NB in the car park...she was'nt looking in her rear view, or listening to my hand on the horn which had been there for a good 2-3 seconds *sigh*

Took it to Dick @ MX-5 Factory. Could'nt be happier. End price came in UNDER the quote (!!!!) The rear bumper looks perfect now, even better than before. He also fixed the left side mirror cover I'd cracked a while ago too... I'd hit the hot water service while reversing out the side of my house (dont ask!) and the mirror pulled back and cracked all the way thru the neck. No problem, $25 fix. He also did a few things for free (!!) - replaced all my missing carpet plugs in the boot, even gave me some spares, and panel beated the beaver bar (what they call it in the US I believe..) for free also.

Very impressive. I also have an intermittant starting fault (I'm thinking coil pack - it always starts in cold fine, but 1 out of 50 restarts again shortly after running it will run like its only on 2 cylinders, and will stay that way unless you leave it for 30min-1hour to cool) - so he's lending me a coil pack to test so I don't have to fork out $600 not knowing if thats the problem.

So glad I've found such a good shop for my mexxy. Highly recommended! One note though - as I've previously read here, if they say 2-3 days, give it 4-5 :) But its worth the wait for sure!

Off on a trip to Mount Baw Baw (Snow) tomorrow... the MX is looking so good now i'm almost scared to drive it! heh

I can second that ! I just had my hardtop repainted there, they did a great job :)

Worth calling in there at the moment to check out the blue NA from Alaska that they have just done a right hand drive conversion on !!

Hi toymx5,

Can you tell me how much it cost to get the hard top painted at MX-5 factory? I currently have a quote for around $800 from my regular body shop. I know it will be a top class job from them but I don't want to spend $800 on an original NA black textured hard top.

Thanks

Rob

Hi Rob,

All up including a new seal for the rear window it was $750.00. The actual piant job was $660.00 I think, that includes GST.

The good thing is they do MX5's every day of the week so they know their stuff. I'm sure you'd be very happy with their work.

Regards,

Peter

Good to hear you please with the result solo22, I've got my car going in to the factory for exactly the same operation on Monday. I'm going to get the front end fixed up a bit while its there - really looking forward to seeing it all fixed up.

slightly ot..but if you have an nb the coil is a two part affair and the one nearest the enine gets hot and degrades...i had this occur and in the process donated the 2nd half to mx5mania in sydney.....maybe they can help with the rare 2nd hand part....and i can say that the service may be a mx5 specialist thing because i reckon mx5 mania are the same sort of friendly and helpful people

enjoy
