Nice work. :)

I've got the template from Revlimiter.net downloaded as well for a crack as soon as I find some time. I look forward to seeing how yours look once installed!

psquire, did you end up getting a scanned image for metric gauges? I reckon this looks awesome. If you've got a template to share that'd be fantastic.

For his "mask layer" he uses normal paper. Is that alright? Are the LEDs bright enough to shine through them?

well after tinkering around this morning ive discovered that the template doesnt match up to nb dials so im going to make up a new one for nb's which ill post up here hopefully this afternoon

he uses normal paper as long as you use something like copy paper i.e. 80gsm it should be fine i wouldnt use anything over 100 gsm paper for it tho
im using a special paper its a xerox brand ( plug) called never tear its a kind of plasticy type thing that is quite thin but as the name sudgests is quite strong and light seems to come through it quite easily

im also tinkering with a couple ideas to do white gauges so ill see how that works out

custom gauge dials

Postby psquire45 » Tue Aug 04, 2009 9:58 am

well ive had some progress not all of it good but what can ya do

ive managed to get a trial set together and in the car which roughly fit although theres some light leaking past the sides of the dials because the fit isnt perfect thsi is my own fault due to not measuring properly because my home scanner was down

how ever ive done the scan now at work and have a nice 300dpi image to upload for people playing the home game

ive also found that if you follow the original tutorial and have the top layer as a transparency the dials are quite shiny and reflective so i may try it with just high quality copy paper (xerox) plug :)

anyway ill post some pictures up of the trial gauges when i can

cheers

custom gauge dials

Postby psquire45 » Fri Aug 07, 2009 10:31 am

well ive finished up my white gauges im happy with them for now well at least until i get another crazy idea theyre basically a knock off of the standard gauges only with white faces and everything lights up blue

the first picture is of the first attempt which came up very shiny and i wasnt particularly happy with the layout of the

the second is of the new ones with the different layering to avoid the shinyness

the third is all installed new sexy awesomeness

i really dont think this is the best mod ive done to the car so far but it is definatley the cheapest seeing as all the materials i knocked off around the office :)

the new layering technique that i used was reasonably simple i used a plain sheet on top i used a polyester paper but normal copy paper should have similar results then used two transparency sheets printed with black details to block out the light coming through in areas where i didnt want it and then a solid sheet of blue printed on transparency on the back to tint any light that does come through

Very impressive.
As you went to so much trouble to do this, you should have put your name on the gauge faces!
