That sounds about right Dorifta.

I have been running modifications for a long time thankfully the boys in blue don't look at an mx5 too closely. The only extenal mods i have are 16" wheels. So you can get away with it, but i don't know what would happen in an insurance claim.

Sell your car buy a standard turbo, i was young and didn't do enough research when i bought mine and the SP was a pipe dream.

Yes SE or SP.

If you need more power than the standard MX5, I'd say they are cheaper in the long run.

x2 on the sp/se....or is it x222
personally i wouldnt go an unengineered modified mx5 ...trouble with the plod is one thing...trouble with the cars development is another...but the real clincher for me is the potential for trouble with insurance and in turn claiiims.
alternately...wait til you get lucky( as im pleased to say i did) and find an already engineered car someone else has put the time and $$ into

Has anyone got info on what exactly needs to be done for engineering?

My rb25det into r32 cost around the $1200 mark for the engineers cert (thats not including box/motor/brakes ect)

Unfortunately I cant afford a se/sp... was thinking something along the lines or nb8a + trust turbo kit with td05 15g (roughly $700 + delivery) and get a not so loud exhaust made up... internally gated sucks though :(

Got a link to that kit dorifta? Thats a bloody good price, especially as I was looking at a Rotrex SC kit for $4000 from USA.

When I was looking it was about 3000 for the emisions test. This was the biggest hurdle if you turbo your car you might be able to get the emisions data from the sp and use that (same engine). The 1.6 was never sold in oz with forced induction so it was a pain. I belive the avo stage 1 kit was complianced so you might want start there. The enigneers I spoke to said they wouldn't look at the car till I had that. Once I had the pass on emisions it was 500 to certify it barring any neccesary upgrades, brakes etc. Emissions is the biggest hurdle in Melbourne.

Don't forget the standard clutch won't stand up to more than 3-4 pounds for very long and the fuel pump and injectors are on the small side so the tuner will probably want to replace them mine did. Some wider rims and an LSD don't hurt either.

im not the greatest expert,but

bigger injectors for fueling saftey..tick..but you could get away without themif cost is problematic
clutch is fine with 6 psi maybe more...just dont do too many burnouts and drop the clutch type behaviours
fuel pump is also fine until higher boost than 6psi

happy to stand corrected, but this is what ive got without an issue( nb with jrsc45.. almost 6 psi)...and i have had the input fom mx5 mania and i did invite them to sell me stuff.
