I forgot that my brake caliper is getting rebuilt tomorrow. Hopefully I can get it installed and bled in time, if not I will be late...

Last Friday of the Month Mt Nebo/Mt Glorious Night Run
So that was a rather eventful night, much more than I would like from a quiet night out or anytime for that matter.
I don't suppose anyone managed to grab the number plates of the white falcon? My housemate and I were very unimpressed with the way it was dríven up mys street and through to Simpsons Road, all of which is a 40 zone.
I am still taken back by the amount of heat tonight when I was making the point of being well behaved and was getting accused of all sorts of things and obviously singled out later on. My housemate who was also in the car with me at the time can concurr that I was not doing anything wrong for which I was accused. It is a very simple idea that if I was doing the posted speed then of course he would have to exceed that to catch up to me? It is an mx5, it is going to maintain that speed around corners better than a commodore and means the commodore would obviously have to speed to catch up! At least I didn't end up with any tickets etc.
Oh well I just hope this doesn't mean I am going to be targeted from now on or anything like that. If the officer involved happens to read this I hope he can put this behind him and not try to draw it out even more than what has already past, which I believe was already a witch-hunt.
Cheers,
Tim

When we left Mt Cootha and turned right to go home we passed a white FG XR falcon parked on the side of the road with the driver sitting in it. Bet it was the same guy...

What happened fellas?
I'm sure no one was being silly, that's not what these night runs are about.

Yeah it was a good night.
Re the Police attention, they kept a close eye on us, had a look at all of our cars, and none of us got booked because we weren't doing anything wrong.

It wasn't anything like that Andrew, more to the point I just happenned to be the one in the wrong place to draw the attention. I was not doing anything wrong, I would just put it down to a perception thing, mx5 goes around corner, looks fast. Luckily it didn't result in anything more than an unnecessary spray and the whole of ferny gove/ the gap's police force watchinig our every move.
You are right Terry, I am sure the current police minister would agree that allocating all of the local police force into watching everything a group of mx5s were doing on the way to getting a coffee is a great use of our supposedly limited police resources. Sad thing is I am not being sarcastic...
I was told by a friend who lives in the gap that there were still police cars sitting in the bus stop near settlement road after 11pm.

It's not just us they would have been looking out for up there, just about about every group of like minded enthusiasts go up there most nights. You only have to listen out for all the cars with colds to know who's having fun on a Friday night. Living just behind Waterworks Rd at Ashgrove, we basically drive past my place from Cootha, I hear most of the cars heading out for a play.
I can understand why the Police would be parked up there most of the night. It only takes one person to overcook it and then someone else has to scrape them off the road (how many of us have gotten through a corner locking a brake or running bit wide with the sphincter working over time and thinking that was close???). Knowing a few Firies I know scraping people off the road is not something they look forward to. Again, I hear the firies head up there from Ashgrove a couple of times a week.
Out of all of this I would say it is a positive thing in that no one was booked, a couple of people had the frighteners put on them for noise and, in the opinion of the officer involved, driving a little too quick for the conditions.
After being monitored as we were we will probably be left alone next time and they will go looking for others who fit the hoon stereotype a bit more than we do.

When Minh was organising these runs, he ALWAYS gives a very brief talk to everyone, especially newbies, that these runs are just social drives, and a get-together of fellow enthusiasts.
All us regulars know what to do, and especially what NOT to do.
They are NOT time-trials, nor are they supposed to be a test of how good you are and how fast your car is.
That's why we meet for coffee and lies afterwards.
Whenever I go, I always try to run "interference" at the tail because on several occassions there has been other cars who drive up the mountains at ludicrous speeds, and I am more than happy to toddle along and absorb and ignore their tailgating antics so these other cars learn NOT to interfere with our fun, and attract unwanted attention.
