Car height in NSW

And yes our QLD regoed cars could technically be defected for having adjustable coilovers in NSW

I don't think you'd have a problem Tezza. The article and politicians view is that they're looking at cars that are too low - it's all about ride height.

Plus, there are no ADR's for shock absorbers or car suspension, only ride height. So if you use your Tein SS's to drop the car on its guts so to speak, then expect problems because of the ride height, not because you have coil overs fitted.

I'm not the slightest bit concerned. My car has 100mm ground clearence, and so is "legal".

Mr Daley said car owners would be limited to raising or lowering their suspension by no more than 5 centimetres from August 1 2009, and all modifications would need engineering approval.

Seems pretty cut and dried to me.

“I don’t want to see young hoons putting their lives or the lives of others at risk, just because they think their car looks better 15 centimetres closer to the ground.
“These hoons may think their car looks cool, but as far as I’m concerned anything more than a 5 centimetre change in a car’s suspension is dangerous and doesn’t belong on our roads."
Mr Daley said.

As can be seen by the above comments, they are doing this to target young "hoons" with stupidly low (or high) vehicles.

They are not going to target Tezza, or me, or JBT, or SPy, or any of us who are passing through NSW, or on holiday south of the border with vehicles that are sensibly (and legally in our home state) lowered. It's impractical in so many respects. The Police aren't going to be bothered hassling anyone who is driving sensibly and within the road rules because their car might* be lower than standard. Sure, if you drive like a clown and they pull you over, they will no doubt have a very close look over the car, and maybe even fine you, but otherwise, they've got better things to do.

Hence, in practical terms, as I am not within their demographic of people and cars to target, and don't live in NSW, I'm not the slightest bit concerned.

Once upon a time, when I could still fit into 32" trousers with stovepipe legs,
a regular piece of equipment carried by police was a roller that measured 4" IIRC on a long handle that would be pushed under all points of your car to check ride height.
I can see this gadget making a comeback on the back of this legislation, and whether your car was lowered yesterday, or 10 years ago, it will need to meet the minimum ride height.

AFAIK, no engineer will pass a car that doesn't....You should see the Clubman's when they get checked....then see them a day after registration.

I can see sales of adjustable coilovers going through the roof.

Is that fully loaded?
Regs here in NSW state that the ride height can be no less than 100mm FULLY LOADED.....begs the question, what is fully loaded in an MX5.
