So..just finished reading all of this.

You are REALLY swaying me toward an NC. Some of those shots of the car with just a nice landscape are superb. Enkei RP-F1s are seriously ultimate win.
And I have to say.. fantastic write up. It's obvious you are a true enthusiast. This car must have the time of it's life!

Thanks Zawrilla (Chris, right?). You need to take an NC for a drive, preferably a fettled one. But even a stock NC will highlight the tractable motor and epic mid corner grip for you. However, as you also seem to be hungering for some horsepower, an S15 would certainly be a nice choice, they are rather tasty (have done a few Pac runs in S13's and S15's back in the day). Even I can appreciate the appeal of an SR20 :D

Thanks! Sadly, no!!! Poor excuses like work and money aside, i'm hoping August will finally see me back at Wakefield with the A048's. To say i can't wait would be an understatement.

Here's a few pics i shot with my little fixed manual at the recent JDM Style Tuning End Of Month Meet. Primarily we were all there to see the offical debut of Babs 'Hakosuka', which is one of the reasons you don't find him around these parts so much anymore :D

There was a small contingent of MX5's present, hopefully we can band together for a group shot at the next EOMM.

The Loop
So, with the glorious sunny winter weather we've been having, conditions have been perfect for Sunday driving. The cold keeps the Sunday driver numbers down while the sun makes it perfect top down weather.

Image

Even after sundown with temperatures in single digits i've yet to employ the full strength of the NC's heater. It's does it's job exceptionally well. Part of the improvement with the NC's heater are a third set of vents at 'lap level', in addition to the vents in the top of the dash and the footwell. You can alternate through floor + lap or lap + dash or all three. The lap vents are like a warm blanket, and with the windows up it's often surprising how much heat is retained inside the car, particularly at freeway speeds.

On weekends though, i take great delight in staying well away from freeways. Last weekend we completed one of our favourite drives we like to do in the Highlands. Starting in Robertson, head down into the Kangaroo Valley. Great spot to stop and look around, and the Blue Toucan serves great food and acceptable coffee. Then across to Berry to visit some of their cool galleries (old Richard Morecroft from ABC news has an awesome series of 'horizontal wideangle' shots on display at the Flying Pig gallery, worth a look). The Emporium on the main street has awesome lunch wraps and passable coffee as well.

Then, up the coast to Kiama, which has some great seafood in the event that you may still be hungry. There's also a cafe that proclaims it has the best coffee in the area, and indeed it is quite good on the two occasions i have tried their coffee. (Pass on the food though).

Image

From here you can take in one of my favourite stretches of tarmac in the south coast: Kiama -> Jamberoo Valley, and Jamberoo Valley -> Albion Park. Short but deliciously cambered & hotmixed b-road this one. Then to cap it all off the awesome climb up Macquarie Pass to finish back in Robertson.

Heh heh, i was downstairs having some nosh and a bit of a catch up session. Quite a few old friends showed up who i had not seen for ages.

Then i came upstairs and was trying to figure out who you were! You can see my back in the video on JDMST actually, i'm wearing the Adicolor Tokyo jacket. I always try to wear something appropriate, haha!

No matter - we'll try and be more organised for the next one.

I would have never imagined this Corolla would be considered JDM (if not collectable). I had one in blue in my early days of driving but always thought it was old and under powered. Though I did like the RWD aspect, I never really appreciated it.

Hello Matt, good run in your backyard, how long does it take you to do. It would be a good part of a club run, maybe start up north and incorporate it as the bottom part and have lunch somewhere in Kiama. Let me know what you think (do it sometime next year). I have been asked, nominated, pushed to be club captain at the end of the year. So I am looking for people to do a run in their own backyard and be drive captain for the day.
Regards Paul.
so much fun, why didn't I get one sooner !!!!!!

Well, like most of the cars in the JDMST collective, they tend to be Australian delivered, and then fettled with to inject that Japanese look/style/tune. Which isn't really a definitive thing in itself, since Japanese culture is so much about niches!

I'm not entirely across this car, but it had nice small dishy wheels in a decent offset, and this picture doesn't do that any justice. It also has those old school bonnet mounted mirrors. There's probably more going on that Corolla afficionado's would pick up on.

To me though, it simply represents one owners passion. From one enthusiast to another, that's a cool thing.

And it has cool plates :D

Seeing the pix of this Corolla, makes me wish I kept my old one. I've always liked it's well proportioned body and overall design.

But growing up surrounded by V8 Commodores, RX3s, RX4s and Turbo TX3s made it pedestrian by comparison. Though the replacement I got, a 2nd-hand 1985 Toyota Celica Supra, answered all that. :D

All in all it's about 3-4 hours with stops. It's not all that far - i can odo and time it out one weekend if you like. I have notes from other club runs I've organised as well that incorporate part of this run.

Haha! Already looking to delegate tasks? Sounds like you're perfect Captain material! Good luck though, in my experience there's always lots of call for more runs, more activities, and so forth, but you can never find any help when you need it! Car clubs, particularly forum based ones, seem to always have their share of armchair (driver's seat?) critics.

Alan - so your an old Toyota driver from way back! I had a suspicion you were a kindred spirit! You should get along to one of the Toymods meets some time - their annual Toymods Toyotafest is certainly worthwhile.
