At least you are OK mate. I hope we will still see you on a Thursday night.
Cheers and best of British.

Thanks rod, i wouldnt miss the thursday night meets for the world, it may be harder to get there untill i have another car but as long as im allowed to borrow the "Lylac Warrior" ie toyota starlet, i should be right!

IB1ZA wrote:Cheyne you now have a reason to upgrade to a NB or a NC :)

Lol, funny you say that sean, an NB8B is very tempting down the track, i am still a NA boy at heart though, they are just so bloody cool!

hks_kansei wrote:holy sh*t mate!

this is certainly not what I expected when I saw the thread pop up, damn!

I'm glad to hear you're ok, but make sure to head back to the doctors and get another checkup after a week or two.

best of luck Cheyne, hopefully all the paperwork etc is pretty straightforward.

Thanks nik, it;s unfortunate i know, sometimes these things do happen, in some ways i am glad the 5 was taken away... it got to points where i would obsess over it a little. not that it is such a bad thing, but at this age a car is a small part of a much bigger thing, i need to start working out the right career path for myself and earn some good money.

If i have my was, which i will, i will be back in an mx5 before i turn 22 or even 21 if i try really hard!

And thanks for your concern Jeo, even though we have never really met, your help and knowledge is much appreciated bud, love your work!

Now, as for new wheels for myself, the 5 was insured for... wait for it... $12k!!!! get that sooon, but i wiill still be saving for a bit as i am seriously considerig one of these, it's a tad more practical, lots more vroom and alot safer. Only con is... well, you can all judge that for yourselves.

Cheyne, bad luck kiddo, sorry for your loss.
Hopefully the stitches haven't dampened those stunning good looks though :P
Really sorry to see the photos, it's always saddening to see damage like that.

I'll try to get to the next meet to share commiserations with you all
Keep safe (everyone!!)

It's winter and the NBs are so cheap now days why would you want a purgot.
NB has the air bags and ABS its easy to drive.

Good to see you are alright mate.
You certainly reshaped your 5 a bit. Gum trees are pretty solid.
Stuff the pug, pick yourself up one of the cheap NA8's that are for sale on the forum at the moment, retain the wreck of your old 5 and turn the rear of it in to a trailer for your drum kit.
As for room for other people, one passenger is always enough and sometimes one too many.

Hello everyone, or you could buy a 4 seat convertible. OH wait I have one for sale. Check out my thread, 4 seat convertible and you'll have spare money after you get your insurance. On a serious note, glad to hear you are alright.
Regards Paul.

Good boy!

Thank goodness you are not that badly injured as those are scary, scary pictures!

As for the Peugeot.... hmmmm..... my best friend is a Peugeot tech, and to put it nicely, they are not the best made cars.
Yes they handle great and have good oomph!, but reliability, and mysterious electronic/electrical faults are a serious issue.
Also.... can you really live with that interior?

Comming from a person who owned one, there are plenty things that go wrong with the 180, too long to list; however they are fun car.

If I had to choose a toad hot hatch from that era, it would be Renault Clio Cup 182, more fun then a 180; they also have there fair share of build quality issues.

Thanks for the tip phil, i have decided not to go down the hot hatch route now, something quick and easy is required now so i have been forced to make a quick decision...

Thanks for the concern jake, the whole mx5 was twisted so the trailer idea wouldnt have worked, sounds cool though!

Ok, i have put a deposit on a car...

It's nothing special but it was a ripper of a deal.

I will just bite my tongue and say this... It's a 1998 KIA Mentor...

The Good:
- 50,000kms
- No Accidents
- Power Steering & Aircon
- 4 Doors and Back seats that have never been used
- Old lady owner
- Immaculate Condition
- 9 Months Rego
- Manual
- New Tyres
- Roomy
- $3,500
- Dark Metallic Blue

The Bad
- Front Wheel Drive
- A 1km long gear shift
- Soft
- It's Korean
- It's not an mx5
- It's not red
- A tacky woodgrain autotechnica steering wheel (will be for sale soon)
- It's Ugly as sin.

The plan is to keep this for the daily grind and around mid next year, buy a nice NA6 or a good NB8A.

No photos yet as i wont have for another week or so.

I will go put on a thick coat so i dont get hurt by the flaming that will follow this post
