air intake/cooling vents in the bonnet
im interested in cutting a hole in the bonnet just above the air intake to let more cold air in...thought maybe some black plastic vents off a peugot might be able to be fitted
does anyone have or know where to find pictures of what other people have done
my car is an NB

not sure if its really going to make a huge difference.
if you a ere experiencing overheating......make sure all other things are correct first. Is you car turbo? I'd certainly consider a CAI before cutting up a bonnet. But thats just my own Personal choice.

Get yourself onto the Autospeed website and have a read of their article on this very subject. You will need to work out where your high and low pressure zones are in order to find the best place for a intake or a vent.
As Stan suggested a CAI, using one of the existing types available in Aust is probably the better way to go. Cheaper, stealthy and can reverted to normal with minimal effort.

Check out a previous, and very long discussion on the forum here, lots of info, opinions and links.
I am hoping to opt for a front bumper (fog light) intake up into the air filter, on an NB there is already a hole which allows for such an easy mod and the front bumper is a high pressure area.
I think Okibi has done this on his NB.

nope the car doesnt over heat....got a you beaut big radiator....not that it overheated before that arrived
ive got a jackson racing supercharger( 45)....as such the cai to the firewall inna mania style is not going to happen
the option described by mx5chic is a possability....but i like the driving lights
another option is to move the air intake forward and put a shield around it.... i gather there is an air flow in the front left of the engine bay ....but its still sucking air from under the bonnet!
i had imagined that i could sheild the air intake where it is and add a bonnet vent/scoop above it to suck / swallow lovely fresh ambient air....... is this logic reasonable???

If the peugeot vents you are refering to are the 206 gti ones then in the pug they are used for cabin air not for cooling They put them on the road car for the rally car's homologation though...

yep theyre the ones i referenced, but i had imagined they would be avalable second hand and used for my own wicked purposes...ie as the previous post said...above the air box....

Fair enough, the early wrc pugs used them for a similar thing until the rules were changed allowing them to use non road car vents.
Do you want me to take any close up photos of the vent for you? Ie the engine bay side of it. I think its a cool idea, wouldn't do it personally but I can understand why you'd want to.

i have also taken note of the stealth issue raised by juffa....and another post about the nannies concern about lowering ( mines lowered albeit with engineering certificate that goes with that ) and ...again ...the importance of stealth
and to tell the truth i am also not definite i want irreversable holes in the lovely aluminium...its a thought i wanted to run by the other mx5 tragics( thats us people)

Why don't you just jack up the rear of the bonnet a little?
Thsi will give massive extra air-flow to the motor, is easily reversible if done the right way, and not very noticeable either.
You really don't want any turbulent air anywhere near your air intake, as the turbulance can actually lower your horsepower.
This is why race cars with their fresh air intakes outside of the car (like F3 cars) always have large plenum chambers where the air can settle down.

Not putting myself out, I just went down to the garage & took a couple of quick snaps on my phone for you. Let me know if you want better ones and I'll grab the SLR. As you can see it comes with some plastic on the back to help direct the air before going into the hole at the back left of the engine bay. I looks like they try to diect it around the 'intake' rather than straight to the hole.
