REVIEWS? Fact finding about packaged tyres
Hey guys, I'm just wondering whether there's a site somewhere that lists some reviews on commonly accessible tyres.
I've found my rims now and they come packaged with tyres in the 205/45 16 config from the following brand:
- Hercules
- Silverstone ($100 more for the set)
- Nexen ($100 more for the set)
The guy on the phone didn't give me anymore detail about the tyres or whether there's other choices to choose from...
So... any forum topics or reviews that have outlined these tyres and how well they perform? (durability, handling, dry, wet, noise etc)
Thanks in advance

If your after reviews on those sorts of tyres, check the 'Lawn bowls' forums or the 'Cardigan wearing Camry drivers' forums.
IMHO that rubbish doesn't belong on a 5.
Do yourself a favor and option a decent set of tyres. They might just save your life one day.

Just as i'd thought...
Any recommendations for something between the $100-$150/tyre budget mark?

New... 205 45 16... Hmm, you're going to struggle.
Maybe some Toyo Proxes 4's can be found at that price, upper end of your price range though... Umm... Falken ze range (nowhere near as good as the toyo) $180 can get you Toyo T1R's which are quite a good street tyre and good value IMO. $200 will get you Bridgestone re001's which are... well um some people love them, others don't.

I find all three are brilliant tyres, I use them to dock ships up against all the time.
Package deals are for dunnydore owners etc, people who want nice rims and stuff buying good tyre!!!
Pick the rims you want then go for the very best tyres you can afford.
The only thing between you and the road are your tyres.
Now having said that the are some bloody good tyres now available from companys that a few years ago you wouldn't put their name and performance in the same sentence, Kumho, hankook as examples.
There are plenty of post here about tyres, Use search and be informed.
Good Luck
Terry

thanks bensale and sliq, i'll look into that.
haha... tbro - the thing is i'm assuming it's not always the more you pay the better it is when you're in the middle price range...
I.e. there must be some $150 tyres that are better than $180?... right?

How do the Federal 595's compare to those listed? They normally seem to be a good price and I was happy with them on my old silvia.

The Proxes 4 is an all-season, low profile tyre with a stylish appearance and long tread
life.
The all-season description and long tgread life should sound a warning. It means it been developed for the US market where some states are snow affected in winter. It means summer (dry) performance is compromised for winter (snow, slush) grip.
For Australia only get summer rated (in US terms) tyres.
