NA6 drive belt

Postby jerrah » Mon Jul 13, 2009 4:42 pm

I'm up for a new drive belt (waterpump and alternator) in my NA6.

What brand should I be replacing mine with and what is the best place to get them in Brisbane?

Repco told me they only sell Dayco.
Supercheap said they sell Gates but they don't have any in stock.

I haven't any experience with either of these brands previously but I've seen a few threads indicating that Gates was superior to Dayco but without any strong conclusions.

Sounds expensive, but I'll give them a call in the morning.

Gates is a very well recognised brand. As good as, or better than Mazda OEM.

Mazda is around $80 IIRC.

I was quoted around $20ish for the Dayco and Gates belts.

(The girl at Supercheap said they "only keep Gates belts in stock for performance cars like Commodores"...)

Has anyone ever damaged a belt? Performance belts - it's a bloody V-belt on the NA6 FFS... not even a 4PK...

I bought the Dayco belt from Repco as they were the only store with stock at hand.

Was recommended a 13A900 but couldn't get it over the pulleys unless I subjected the belt to force so took it back for a 13A915. Fitted easily and tensioned up ok. Retensioned after 5 minutes idling. I'll see how it goes.

I had the exact thing and just swapped it. Been running them for a few months now.. I mostly drive the car hard and have had no issues..
