Nothing overly exciting to report back for the moment. Started applying for houses to rent last week, so I'm trying to avoid spending anything until I get a place and stuff to put in it. Still feeling wheels, flares and coilovers but their time will come.

For something genuinely car related though, this happened the other day...

I bought a set of low profile headlights of one of the members here a little while ago and decided to have a go at putting them in today. They are apparently a kit from MX5 Mart in NZ, just not a great fitting kit. I was told that some extra work would be required to get everything sitting just right.

It uses the standard bulb and holder in the new light housing, as that part sure was easier than expected. OEM actuator and base are used also. What the kit brought was a new bracket that holds the light and pivots, a new rod that pushes said bracket and of course the lights themselves.

I spent the first part of the day looking at houses so I didn't get to start this until around 3. At which point it got dark fairly shortly after :( So I only managed to get one side in and didn't get a chance to play with the adjustment nor figure out how to make it sit right yet. Pics will explain better :)

And here is the 'not fitting-ness' as it sits now

Hmmmm, they look ok... Personally I would just stick with the sleepy eyes mod. I find the standard light set up looks a bit more 'cheeky'

Both lights are now in. The passenger side one fits even less than the drivers side did so more adjustment will be needed. I manged to get the passenger side to fit almost as well as the drivers side, but both are still way too far out for my liking. Pics will be up soon.

I was never a fan of the stock lights sorry Cheyne. This was something that I had been planing to do in some form or another for a long time now.

Though I still like the original Frog eye look, these ones are not bad. I actualy quite like them. Reminds me of the FD RX-7s or MR-2s.

With the headlight lids made of aluminium, sometimes, you can simply press them down (or up) to line them up properly with the bonnet. I also think they need some sort of headlight cowling or surround to tidy up the headlight fitting (or hide all the gaps in between).

Personally, I like your kit better than the twin light low profile alternatives out there.

No :( they were already gone. He's on the lookout for some more for me :)
I am still mighty tempted by those Watanabes there, probably a little excessive for daily duties though.

I was a big fan of the lights on the AW11 MR2's, that kinda what I was hoping for with these.

I've already bent the crap out one of the tabs on the passenger side and it did help. I'm sure with some more time I should be able to get both sides right.

Cheers, me too :)

Cmon Jeo, dont be soft

Those would be perfect for the NA, it would be hellaflush with minimal camber.

but beware if the wheels are cracked, they are useless.

The Meisters or the Watanabes? I would have thought that the Meisters may have fit under OEM guards but the Watanabes would be a mile out, wouldn't they? (not that I'm against flares, still thinking about it :))

Not a fan of fat camber sorry MXHEVN, I think it looks silly. Practically flat tyres with no stretch is what I'm aiming for.

And yes, buying used wheels sight unseen from Japan is a little scary. Unfortunately I don't see many ways around it, short of buying new

I just noticed the wantanabes are 9 and 10 inches wide  they are probably the same range as my fitment now. If they were 8 inches wide, they would be perfect! you would be able to fit nice chunky tyres, and fill the guards up with minimal camber (-1ish)

miesters you could do the same, but you could run no camber at all and there would still be some guard gap, just depends if you like aggressive offset that fills the sh*t out of guards or not.

Its not that they are in japan and you cant see them, its because they are magnesium, and once magnesium wheels crack ... its all over, you cant repair magnesium. This is the only down side to watanabes, as majority of their wheels are known to be super lightweight, soley because they are magnesium.

I wouldnt be fussed buying wheels on yahoo japan honestly, just ask for lots of detailed pictures of each wheel, and a imprint or sticker to verify they are real. I wouldnt buy any used watanabes unless i could see them with my own eyes.

There are aluminium and magnesium Watanabes, so depends which ones you get.

And no not overrated, they are a classic rim, and are still cool since the 1960s.

both the 9.5" +8 and the 10" +13 stick out 11/12mm more than 8" +0, you will need roll, pull, camber
