Style bar VS Roll bar

Sounds like Brown Davis Rollbar is the popular choice.

Forgive me for highjacking but what are the differences between the NA Brown Davis Rollbar and the NB one?

Can I use an NB one in my NA? And will it still clear both my soft-top and hard-top?

Basically the NA bar wont work with the NB glass windowed soft top where the NB bar will work with both. The hardtop clears both.

Also, is it hard to raise and lower the roof with a BD rollbar?

Is there anyway to tell the difference between an NA one and an NB one ?

How is the visibility?

I can't do it while sitting down. I have to get out of the car & raise it. I know big dog can reach over & raise it.

Visibility is less. you basically have a crossbar going diagonally though your rear vision mirror. Down point is you can't perve a a good sort through the rear vision mirror. Usually the face is covered by the diagonal. You can still see a car or a object behind you.....

Not in NSW. At least not for a BD. Because a BD satisfies the three requirements. Trust me, BTDT....

Ya I know what ya'll are talking about when style bar & ebay come up here in the USA on the Miata sites vs real roll bars. Its get your guns out time. lol This is the way I look at it. A style bar is just what it say for style. As far as the mouse trap effect goes. The style bar leans some to the rear so it be hard to say which way it might go on a roll over. ( I see it went forward on the picture Speed Racer posted.) On my NB it would hit the seat first an push the seat into my head. So the best thing to do is keep the shinning side up if you dont have a real roll bar. I worry more about getting rear ended or hit on the side by one of the big SUV we have here than rolling over. yep ,got to get rid of that bench seat ,a cross brace probably won't help in a mousetrap situation. you need fore and aft bracing as well.

Oh I don't just mean an up and over roll bar, I mean one with the supporting cross beam and the two diagonal supporting beams running towards the rear of the car.

Can I get it engineered?
Is it CAMS approved?
Does the roof work and stow OK with this?
What about the wind deflector?
How is vision impaired? (I am a short arse)
Is it possible to get a roll bar without the diagonal crossmember

yes, you can get it engineered

yes it is cams approved

the roof does work but you'll need to get out of your car to put the roof up and down

you will need to adjust your wind deflecting angle. bevan has a write up on this, followed up by r_muir86. search function is your buddy.

vision is impaired. you won't be able to perve on women.

you can get another roll bar without the diagonal cross member - not the BD one unfortunately, unless you get it custom made. look at mx5plus twin hoop roll bars..

If you like the look of the twin hoop bars have a look at the MX5 plus twin hoop roll bars, I have been in a roll over and it happened because we were T boned so it can happen in any car, I just put one of the twin hoop MX 5 plus bars in my NB8B and they are great...!!! I looked at the BD bars as well but was more impressed with the MX5 plus bars and the way they mount and the position of the support arms.
The guys that designed them are engineers, and have these bars in their cars and their kids cars, so they feel pretty secure with them, as do I. From memory the bar I have will take about 9 tonne for and aft and about 3 tonne downward pressure before it bends, hope fully I'll never test it.

I have seen a few photo's of rolled 5s and not on the track, and did a lot of research before I bought the bar I did, and for me its a no brainer, roll bar or nothing and these bars look just as good as a style bar anyway.

My has a mod plate so no problems with the law.
Roof works fine
No problem with visibility at all
And I can still put the roof up from the drivers seat.
The wind deflector goes( working on a new one to fit between hoops)
