Also, holy crap!
My car is a private import that is registered in Aus as an 01/1990 model. The car is also insured as a 01/1990.
Soon after purchase I figured out that this wasn't that case as Black w/ Tan didn't exist until 91. Freaked out at first thinking it was a rebirth but EVERYTHING on the car lined up to the V-Special I thought it was, except the date. Thus I wasn't too worried about it. Not much of a difference and they probably stuffed it up at import.
But now that I've looked up my vin on the above table (NA6CE212***), I apparently have an 04/1993.
Anyone think its worth informing the RTA/insurance company?

I wonder if that was done intentionally so it would sneak through under the original "15 year old" import rules.Jeo wrote:My car is a private import that is registered in Aus as an 01/1990 model. The car is also insured as a 01/1990.

Do you know when it was imported? early 2005 would be my guess...

private import so the 15 year rule doesn't apply

you certainly don't want to provide the insurance company with a potential loophole, but it might also depend on whether you have all the import documents to support your case & irrefutable evidence that it's a 04/1993

Hi All,
New here, just bought my RED 1993 NA LE.
Check out this link:
http://www.miata.org/vin-decoder
Type in your VIN and you will get the following information:
This Miata was built in Japan, by Mazda.
It is a 1st Generation (M1), with a .
It was built in at the Hiroshima plant.
It was the 100,463rd Miata built in .
Country of Origin: J Japan
Manufacturer: M Mazda
Vehicle Type: O
Miata Generation: NA 1st Generation (M1)
Body Style: 30
Engine Size/Type: 6
Check Digit: 2 Check digit, has no meaning.
Model Year: 0
Manufacturing Plant: 0 Hiroshima
Series Number: 200463 100,463rd in .
This is at odds with what I am reading in the posts in this thread which would suggest it is a 2nd Generation.
Which one is correct?

Welcome! - I think you'll find the context that the decoder is using the term 'generation' is NA6 & NA8 is 1st generation or M1. NB is 2nd generation or M2 & NC is 3rd generation or m3. Also, the NA8 is sometimes referred to as M1.5. What you might be thinking of is called a revision number, i.e. where the bolded in JMONA3061 versus JMONA3062 is the revision number. Btw, just saw your post ref what # LE you have - if Mazda can't tell you, then may be only the prints were numbered, & not the actual car in any physically identifiable way. Although, it's possible a block of 100 VIN #s might have been alotted to the '93 red LE - only way to find out might be to compare to other '93 red LEs.

I found the original Excel file for this table:
http://www.verithingeoff.110mb.com/VW%2 ... r_vins.xls
It comes with some credits:
Data derived from registration numbers published on MX5OCforum by A. Stott and at miata.net.
This spreadsheet should only be used for guide purposes, and no guarantee as to it's acuracy is made.

Dunno mate. I'm just reposting what A.Stott and A.Thompson worked out. I guess there might be some inaccuracy for the earliest cars. Though I notice your VIN prefix is 6U9000NA6CE0 compared with 6U9000NA6CE1 for the oldest ones on that table. So maybe there was a "0 series" in Jun, Jul & Aug '89 before the "1 series"???
BTW, here's an updated VIN register with a few gaps tidied up and my own VIN added. Looks like I've got a very late Series 1 NA6 (built Feb '92 versus Aug 2002 start for Series 2).
*PLEASE NOTE: I think that the complete VIN is necessary to ensure accuracy of this list. Especially as there could be sequential numbers that are more than the last 4 digits. Do not post if you are uncomfortable with this due to privacy issues.

Just for info, Andrew Stott is a very good mate of mine in the UK, and I am also happy to call Andy Thompson a friend as well. The source on the web for that spread sheet is my website for Hofner Verithin guitar collectors, just a convenient place to park the file for access by UK forum members.

FWIW, the Eunos Roadster was released in March '89 in Japan.
