Touch Up Paint (spray cans)

My Mazdaspeed rear pods should be here sometime this week. Only problem is they are Titanium grey and my car is Sunlight Silver.

Does anyone have any recomended places to go to get paint matched and put into a spray can. I got some for my previous car from a place just round the corner from me, but they have since closed down)

preferable somewhere in the southen suburbs of Sydney

- you will need some clear as well. Phone book should give you automotive paint suppliers or check one of your local automotive business people for a lead.

just go to normal car shops (autobarn, supercheap etc)

you can usually get the aerosol cans pre-done for about $12max, since your car is still factory colour, and since Sunlight silver was used on other Mazda models, it should be on teh shelf.

I have used Duplicolour brand in the past and it's been pretty good.
just remember to sit the can (the can part, dont wet the nossle) in some hot (not too hot, you should still be able to put your hands in there) water before you spray, it helps increase the can pressure a bit and thins the paint so it sprays more evenly.

or jsut go to a panel shop and get it sprayed properly and ti will look heaps better!

yeah ive had a look at the car shops and they dont have Sunlight Silver (which i thought they would). Thats cool, i was just seeing if anyone knew of any people that mixed up paint to put in a spraycan...
ill just look on the net for a place that is close to mine.
I could get them sprayed professionally, but they are only a small part of the body..if it was another part of the car i wouldnt hesitate to get it done professionally

I went to automotive paint supplier, they can make it to any colour you want. The code for sunlight silver is 22v. It's $30 per can, you need to get the clear as well.

this is all very interesting. does anyone have any photos of their work with these made to order rattle cans? I might give it a go on a few panels that have some scratches etc.

I used to get the sunburst made up in cans until my source stopped making them. They were'nt that successful as towards the end of the can you always seemed to get paint splatter. Now use the prevail kit from Bunnings. You still have to get a tin of paint mixed from a paint shop and only thin out what you need. I find it a good option but my paint is not irredescent.

My local small business auto paint supplier mixes in a spray can whilst you wait. They use standard cans and tint as required- I waited about 5 mins and the cost was less than $20. All I had to paint was a petrol cap lid and getting it done professionally was not a consideration as far as cost is concerned.Incidentally the car was an imported small Ford and the spare parts at the dealer did not include paint- they pointed me to the local small business who I already knew.I did have some probs with sputtering but this may have been technique but just let it dry and rub it down if it is not to your liking. Some people do a terrific job with spray cans.
