Brake upgrades bolt in or slight mods

Ok we've just put some speedy lite5 17x7 wheels on our NA6 wrapped on dunlop sportsmaxx tyres. and
as with having big rim the brakes look small.
engine mods are planned so bigger brakes are needed. wats the go? would like somthing that will fill the 17's out a bit more.

My old man actually has an AP racing kit that he designed for the MX-5 specifically.

standard NB8B brakes will bolt straight on and fill up a lot of that empty space. click on the links of the forum sponsors below coz they would have second hand parts in stock i reckon and at least one of them shuld be able to help you out.

Yeh they are pretty awesome, but they are a front only, and its all incredibly high quality, and with that quality comes the cost i guess.

I dont think the NB8B calipers fill out the 17" wheels all that much...

you may want to get some fake brembo caliper covers on e bay around 32 dollars.

brembo kit will fill it the best - 317mm from disk i think. all the other kits are a bit small or rubbish chinese stuff. that ap kit is very very nice. I am yet to receive my ap racing kit but its the ap racing factory kit and is a bit smaller then little decks dads version. I have done a massive amount searching for brake kits and it really does depend on budget. google it and you will fine quite a lot of options for mx5/miata big brake kits. but have a look at the brembo kit.

It would be easier and cheaper to go back to smaller wheels. The expense of any brake upgrade for aesthetic reasons is a total waste-I think the brakes are capable to handle the fire breathing 100+ hp engine.

When you have actually gone over the 200 rwhp mark then look at a balanced front and rear brake upgrade. On a NA6CE, a 17" wheel can look good with some lowered suspension but will never handle as well as on lighter 15" or 16" wheels with 6.5" to 9" widths. But it is your car and in the end, what you like goes. :mrgreen:

I'd expect somewhere between $2500 ~ $4000 depends on many things, the calipers themselves will account for a sizable chunk.
Went for a drive and there were slow cars everywhere, why are NC's so common . . . must be NC = Normally Cardiganed.

I was quoted $3 - $4k for the parts (price difference is for pad choice). It comes with:

2 calipers
2 dba 5000 series slotted rotor
2 alluminium hat (anodised in your colour of choice)
2 dog bones to re-align the caliper to the hub (again anodised in your colour of choice)
2 adr approved brake lines
1 set of pads
and you will also need 8 longer wheel studs

I know lotus has AP racing calipers front and Brembos rear calipers. I hear the pads are hard to find and expensive but at least you have acess to DBA 5000 series rotors...

the caliper dad uses is actually bigger than the lotus AP caliper...

he chose this for several reasons,

-it matches the fluid diplacement of the standard caliper so the pedal is virtually identical

-there is an enormous selection of pads that fit these calipers

-AP quality is second to none

this is all correct, but the price is $3300 incl. GST

however this does not include pads as there are different options in brand/quality etc
