NA6 LNC Turbo Engine Rebuild

Postby lil red rocket » Wed Jul 01, 2009 7:17 pm

A couple of Questions to maybe the race guys
I am replacing the Turbo engine in LowMiata AKA Ryan Middleton's Evil5
I have a used B6D 1600 LNC Engine to be rebuilt.
What I want to build is a reliable Turbo engine used for Street and Track
- running up to about 12 lb boost expecting about 200 RWHP

The new engine goes something like this:
Ground, Crack tested, shot peebed and titrided crank
new pistons, rods, valves, double valve springs, bearings, seals, gaskets, water pump, timing belt, ARP Head and rod bolts etc.
Port and polished head
ground cams

Question 1: will a 1800 block fit a 1600 head?
Question 2: are 1800 rods the same as 1600 rods
Question 3: Has anyone used BELFAB RACING PRODUCTS ie pistons and rods or full rebuild kit?
They look good on www.belfabracing.com and the prices is just over AUS$2000 for forged pistons and rods, springs, valves bearings and gaskets etc - WORTH A LOOK AT!!!!

Q2: they are interchangeable: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=20202&hilit
Q3: haven't used their products so can't comment

Two threads for the same question is typically frowned upon.

All
Sorry for the 2 threads. The questions were for a turbo engine but not related directly to the turbo. Thanks to all that filled me in. Ive been meaning to post some pix as Blue Chilli is a long way from LoMiata. Why the rebuild - 295000 kms - It was like a turbo oiler.

Changes so far:
NB8B Blue soft top with glass rear window
NB Air conditioning
Central locking
White Line Sways
AVO Coilovers
NB Brakes
NB Seats
NA8 chassis Braces
Quieter Twin exhaust - 1 on each side
Inter cooler change - smaller - now size of front mouth
bonnet vents 1 for air Intake to K&N in headlight and 2 to exhausting hot air
Rerooted K&N Turbo intake to behind headlight
ACL Heat Shield around K&N
7" torsen 4.1, rear '97 sub frame & half shafts
water reroot - block off front & use datsun 1600/180B thermostat housing and machined housing from Uncle Richard (MX5 Plus)
oil heat exchanger off NA8
Walbro upgrade fuel pump
Maybe run 2 maps 8 and 12 psi
NEW LNS 1600 being built - should be good for 200HP

And that's NOT the end.
Regards
Blue Chilli

Anyone know which Head Gaskets (ie B6Tor B6E) to use for water re-route with NA6 Turbo Engines.

Anyone having heat problems with water re-route on NA6 Turbo Engines?

I've done a Car Domain Web Site for Blue Chilli Pix and Mods. Comments????

Hi For what it is worth forget the Cams and spend the money elsewhere, they are a pita for little result.Give some thought to fitting an 1800,the price of the Cams would just about cover it,new manifold and wella, GRUNT!

Sometimes droping a 1.8 in is not always the best solution!
there are other ways of generating horse power! sometimes people don't want to do the done thing!

When you've gone down your own path and generated as much horsepower as a 1.8 could with a 1.6 its much more rewarding! and you know yourself that you've done your own thing to get there.

If you do the same things to both motors, the 1.8 should have more go due to the displacement. Doing things the 'different' way generally costs more for the same gain. I think the main problem is that the avo kit and all the other custom bits wouldn't fit a 1.8 so in this case, the cheaper option is to stick with the 1.6 engine.

12psi and 200hp is not a big target. If that's "all" you want a nice low K import engine will do the job and give you no problems at all. I had run 16psi continuously on a stock engine with no issues, and had made over 280hp also on stock internals.

Eventually it gave way and another fairly stock engine replaced it, rebuilt with B6T rods and lower comp pistons.
When results speak for themselves - don't interrupt.
