Need advice: Body kit + painting recommendation
Hi guys,
New to the forum and just got my hands on a NB8A in gold with hard top, fully stock.
Thinking of getting the garage vary front bumper, side skirts and rear lip and have a proper paint job to make them black (front bumper with gold on top and black on the bottom so that it compliments the black side skirts).
Anyone know where i can:
- Get a more competitive price than what I can see online atm (almost $2k all up!)
- Someone who can do a good job at painting and installing with wrecking the original frame
- Whether I can find these parts from wrecks or 2nd hand? (if i can get my hands in black side skirts and rear lip then i can save some dosh on painting...)
thanks guys, much appreciated.
P.S. I'm Sydney based btw.

Which Garage Vary kit? There are a couple for the NB aren't there?
For genuine Garage Vary parts, $2k is cheaper than I would have thought.
No idea on paint and installation as I'm not in Sydney sorry.
You'd be very lucky to find the parts second hand. They are reasonably rare and quite sought after.

If you are after genuine GV kit, I suggest you go to JDM yard. Honest blokes who sells what they says. However do not go to X Racing!!!, I got rip off big time buying the worst kit ever and the owner is dodgy as hell!!!

Xracing aint so bad, he painted my kit.
There is only one GV replica floating around and thats the one mania uses. The tomei demo car features a GV bodykit, which is quite rare around the world, probably because of the 3k price tag without shipping ... one day, one day
Plug: I do happen to have a mazdaspeed rear lip for sale on ebay, would compliment the gv kit well. /plug

Yer, I was referring to the GV bumper at mania.
What's the tomei demo car? (link, anyone?)
MXHEVN - mate, how much did the paint job costs for the rear lip?
Does anyone actually sell mx5 kits other than mania in Sydney?......

My whole lip kit cost $700 to paint, modify and repair.
front lip was about 200 to repair the chips warps, and paint
Sideskirts about 200
and rear lip 300, as the exhaust outlet was reglassed for a bigger opening.
Carmate sell mx5 kits, but they are sh*t cunts! dont even bother.
Xracing had some kits iirc.
Sinex have both the bomex and garage vary kits but they are not sydney based.
google is your friend here.

Mate, if you think carmate is sh*t...I'm suprised you think Xracing is ok. The kit that I got from them is so sh*t that it has to be cut & modified extensively and the doors still can't close.
Just be aware when you are buying bodykit. You pay what you get. There's many seller out there that sells cheap / crappy copies.

Well i didnt buy any body pieces from him However the S14 was painted and has his bodykit on it, it still fits perfect to this day (mind you, the body kit is 8 years old). what you describe is the standard on Carmate bodykits. How long ago was this? What could of happened is that he didnt have the product you were after, so he sourced it for you (he tends to do this alot).
At the end of the day, thats what happens when you buy replica bodykits. Either stick with OEM or a genuine product, otherwise that will happen.

One of my mates got his toy supra a body kit from carmate. The kit fitted pretty bad. Side skirts did not sit flush with chassis. Needed glue and resin to fill the gaps after some bits of the skirts were hacked to reduce the gap. I think it depends on what car and what kit you buy.

Carmate are known for their shocking service and sh*t parts. But their website setup is what does it for them. They barely have any customers that actually pick up their parts, they do it all through the website.
There are some decent "replicas" out there, the mx5 mania GV replica bumpers are top notch, alot of the common kits i.e S15 vertex, HSV for that shitbox commodore, generally, arent too bad, but when you get to the kits that are not as common, then you run into trouble.

Good luck with your choice of Body Kits, some kits and combinations can look great and some I have seen look rather tragic, I have tried to stick with Mazda OEM parts but you can pay through the nose for them, in my case it has taken over two years just to locate an SE Rear Wing and and a Front Lip Spoiler - Just fitted the front lip today, and I love it.
I had the car sprayed by a friend who normally paints trucks and buses but I was able to paint the spoilers myself which are relatively easy.
