Brown Davis bar roof wear?

Postby hks_kansei » Wed Jun 24, 2009 1:08 am

I'm looking into a rollbar pretty soon and have pretty much made my mind up to get a Brown Davis bar, it's local, cheaper than the Torquebox one from MX5+, and looks better (personal opinion)

however the BD bar does foul on the NB roof (causes odd folds at the window edges) this is my only real concern as I drive with the roof down mostly, and I expect it would cause accelerated wear (and therefore cost)

so people with a BD bar on an NB:

how long have you had the bar?
noticed any excess wear since installing?
is your top up or down usually, and how often is it changed? (ie: is the top dropped every morning and raised every night, or is it parked with the top down mostly?)

I don't see where it would rub with the NB rollbar.
I've had mine on for over 2 years now with no real issues, generally my softop is put up and down about 3 times a week otherwise the hardtop is on.
Clears fine, but I did install a strap to make it easier to raise the softop from the drivers seat in one go.

when the top is folded the bar (the braces on the rear) push on the fabric/vinyl near the rear window.

sounds like it should be fine then, 3 times a week for 2 years without issues is good.

Brown Davis bar roof wear?

My BD has been in most of the 9 years I have had the car ... well, I have had two BDs, one alloy, the other steel - and no problems.

Just make sure you get the later model one for the glass rear window, the diagonal is slightly different, but the main difference is in the rear supports, which are splayed out to allow the glass window to fold down between them. The fabric of the top still bunches up though, but I have not noticed any wear problem. I reckon I will have other problems before I am troubled with that one

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)
