Eunos's Clubman

Postby eunos » Sat Jun 20, 2009 8:17 pm

Well I've been looking for an mx-5 for a while and when this gem popped up after the test drive I just couldn't say no.

The good:
1993 Clubman
5 speed manual
Red (I had been chasing any colour but red but it was the only clubman I had seen for sale in a long time haha)
Usual clubman goodies, Torsen Diff, Bilstein suspension etc
Air Con :D:D:D:D
Aftermarket CD/radio (it's a clarion, still trying to work out if it just doesn't like my cd's or the cd function is bust but I haven't been listening to much more than the exhaust)
118*** kms!!!
Good compression across all cylinders

The Bad:
Needs some new coolant hoses
Needs a new slave cylinder
Small leak from the rocker cover gasket
It's had a few front/rear bumps but nothing major.

The paint on the mirrors is a little faded and the rear view vinyl/plastic is quite cloudy.

I'm rather pleased with it, haven't been able to go more than a few hours without being tempted to go for a fang haha especially when it's been raining a little bit some of the corners around my place are quit fun in the wet :P
I'm very surprised/pleased with the performance I know the redbook figure on 0-100 is around 8 seconds but I'm struggling to believe that it's not faster.

Pics will be up when the weather improves. If anyone knows where I can get a haynes manual I'd be very appreciative (pit stop bookshop???), also what's the best way to take care of the cloudy vinyl a quick search led me across a few product names but the reviews seem to have been mixed on just about all of them.

ah and I'm in WA and will be getting along to club events shortly haha

thanks for the well wishes all, small update. Still no real pics owing to the absolutely balls weather (I do have some snaps mum took before the first drive haha I'll throw them up when I get round to it) and the torrent of uni work I find myself faced with. Took the car in for an alignment today and am not very happy with the results, I went in with the specs from charlie browns post and was told yup no problems can do that, the car now pulls to the left and I'm fairly sure there is no way of reconciling the numbers I gave them with the numbers that came back on the spec sheet. Time to go back and complain.

I've also noticed a small leak starting on both windows because the foam is starting to split. I'm thinking a reasonable fix might be a water proof resin of some kind, thoughts??

Euno's indicates a Japanese grey import. Clubman's were a local release?

When I use to have an NA I had really milky/cloudy rear plastic window but I gave it a very good cut & polish on both sides and it came up crystal clear (might be worth a shot) and I just gave it a cut & Polish once a month and it never became cloudy again.

Also nice and welcome to the fun of a 5 (especially a clubman)

1999 MX5 Brilliant Black - Gone

just to clear up any confusion that might occur in the future, I've used eunos as nic on various forums for a while now and it has nothing to do with the "manufacturer" of the 5 it is definitely a mazda mx-5 clubman haha but I can understand why the title might be a little confusing.

Despite reservations I had about damaging the plastic I think I'll give some cut polish a go, what's the worst that could happen *waits for dramatic thunderclap which sounds ominously like the plastic rear window snapping* cheers for the advice lukey
