Spot lights

Hi all,

I am interested on getting some extra front lighting for my NB8A, a couple of spotties.

I have seen these on fleabay and I am after some opinions:

I have experience with spotlights on 4WD's before, a lot larger types, but these look like a good fit on the corners of the intake.
I am wondering if a "projector" light like this would actually work and what sort of beam to expect - i.e. are they going to be useful?

Depending on what you want.

If these projector type lights are like the low-beam of most cars, then they will be not as good as a hi-beam spot/driving light. It does not sound like they will provide a wide spread coverage.

If you'll notice, a lot of cars that have OEM projector headlights [just like the NB8B] have a reflector type for their hi-beam.

I would buy a known quality lamp such as from Hella. There have some small driving lamps that will do the job and likely to fit in the "mouth". Hammer is right. Driving lamps will provide a long range and you will need a kit. Hella provide sizes and details - try their web site or ring for advice. Incidentally they also have a small HID driiving light kit which is fully legal but it does have ballasts and might need a bit of thought to fit neatly. You get a warranty and local support.

I use to run some small wide beam spotlights in out NB8A, I used them for spotting roos and seeing into corners better when driving out in the hills.

The problem with mounting spots, or driving lights, into the mouth at the front, is that they are mounted very low and to get a good, long spread, they have to be adjusted to be virtually pointing upwards, which is not too good.

The higher you can mount a light, the more effective it will be.

The ideal place to mount them would be on the top of the windscreen header, but then it will look like a roo shooter's car!
