In harsh or dusty driving conditions maybe. NA8's to the last of the NB's have a 10000km service interval.

I used to use Mobil 1 but then discovered that they now use Mineral Oil base stock in it, makes me feel a little ripped off when I thought I was paying all those dollars for a "100% Synthetic".
I have now changed to Nulon Synthetic and have noticed engine noise has reduced, I also just drained my Power Steering after it developed a concerning noise and filled with Nulon Synthetic - noise is gone.
For my future oil change I will be sourcing AMSOIL which I used to use when I raced bikes ... best oil on the market.

I, use Castrol Edge 5W-30W in a turbo NB.
A couple of people have told me I should use a heavier oil, is this correct. And if so what?

If you had a turbo NA8 you probably would have noticed that oil makes the engines HLA's noisy. But since you don't have HLAs & have solid lifters instead it'll run ok.. The trend here seems to be 10w40 but I use 10w50 on my car.

I wouldn't use 5w-30 in the Australian climate and full synth isn't necessary in my old na
Nice tip for those that like to use this oil, buy the Repco semi synth 10w40 at Repco stores. Look on the back of the bottle, "made & packaged for Repco by Mobil" few dollars cheaper too.

Castrol Edge 5W-30 has been very good, but I change it every 3 months. Now looking for a full synthetic to go a bit longer. Castrol German full synth was about the same as Edge. Mobil 1 10W-40 was much worse (car ran hotter and noisier all round). Next there's Royal Purple 5W-30 sitting in the garage waiting for when the Castrol RX running-in oil has done 1,000km.
The rumour is that the Mobil 1 that we buy is 2nd rate ex-Malaysia, not the good stuff in V8 teams, Europe and America. Sound like a familiar story?

the nulon is what I currently have in the car. seems to do the job just fine. have not had a track day on it yet to really test it.

I use the Pennzoil Gt Performance 20W 50, or the Street Machine 20W 50 if I can get it, as I have three cars at home with similar requirements, but differnet uses.
I find the Pennzoil holds good oil pressure in the engines I use it in for both road and tracj use, is a good price and doesn't burn too much like I have found with some other oils I have tried.
I like the 50 weight for the MX as it is a high km motor, almost 205,000 km, and I also use the oil in my 240Z circuit racer and will also be using it in Valiant Charger.
I tend to change the oil based on time rather than km dríven as my cars don't get dríven a lot. Generally I change oil every three or six months depending on use and kilometres dríven.
I can also get the Pennzoil in 20l drums which is easier for me to do three oil changes at once.

When we had the club Castrol tech night many years ago the guy recomended using at least 50 weight oil for track cars. 30 weight is to light for track conditions.
