Wazman's NB8a

Postby wazman » Sat Jun 06, 2009 2:31 am

Hi all,
This is my NB.....it was dead stock when i bought it. :?
Image

I've started modding my mx5. I hope to build a car that is satisfying to drive on and off the track.... 8)

First thing i notied was the serious lack of an LSD on exiting corners......so in goes the Kaaz 1.5way. Me and my house mate removed the diff and i took it to central diffs in springvale to get the preload set...

After some "spirited" twisties runs.......the radiator decided to retire :(
Image
a 80mm long split near the top hose......and the sweet smell of boiling coolant in the air :?
So i looked on ebay and found an ASI 52 mm alloy rad for $300.....GG! :D (good game)
ASI rads have been proved to do the job very well by many nissan boys on the drift scene...... so i had no qualms about going the cheaper option, since i knew it was going to work fine.

So.....out with the old and in went the new.....
unplugged thermos and pulled out the rad...

The thermos come off small first then big.....and go back on big then small, because they overlap....

The only annoying thing i can find with the rad it the drain plug is 25mm.....(not common in most spannner sets)

Sorry about the blurry pics.....
I hope to do most of the modding of this car myself. I'll try to do a detailed build thread so people can see how it all comes together....and if it works

Cheers, Warwick

52mm think is no joke, though still squeezed it in with the intake pipe still on..... duel core too 8)
Check the difference in the core thickness!

The radiator issue was a little sad as i was saving for coilovers so i could fit the wheels i bought...... but they shall have to wait a little longer now :(
teaser...(tonka truck spec ride  )

I'm keen to get some extra chassis bracing into the car as it seems to shudder alot on rough roads and squirm when pushed hard through corners.....
I will be fabricating my own and posting it all in here so stay tuned to see what works and what dose not
Cheers, waz

Sweet write up mate, I've got the exact same colour and model.

I'm looking for a radiator replacement in the future, did you have any problems with fitment, aside from thickness? (things such as hose outputs and things not lining up etc)

Also that LSD looks tasty :D

Radiator and LSD is SWWWWWEEEET! Can't beat preventative mods ;) I might look into a new rad as well soon.

That ASI radiator looks just like my Cooling Pro, including the cap with the chain link. :?

Are they one of the same or is one a copy (Just like the RB Style 2 Bar and OBS Bar)?

nice work, keep the updates coming.
Also if your looking for some cheap bracing ask around for some NB8B/C stuff, seems to go quite cheap.

they look great!

so I presume flares or pulled guards will be next on the agenda, the wheels look like they dont really clear the stock guards.
