Shift Light into instrument lighting

Postby tcoo7399 » Wed Jun 03, 2009 11:50 pm

Hi, I am thinking about changing my dash lights to bi-colour leds so it goes from blue to red depending on RPM. I have already cleaned the green stuff of the dials, found the rpm signal wire and got a rough idea of what to do. Although i was wondering how does the RPM signal work. From what i have read it is a pulse i think. Anyone got any ideas on what gizmo reads and can be adjusted for it? ie what does the job in a shift light. Ideally i want to avoid buying then hacking up a shift light.

I am going to hit up jaycar in the next few days to see if they have a frequency switch kit.

Also has anyone tried this?

I use a frequency switch kit from Jaycar to send a signal to my cluster mounted shift light. It has worked fine for the last couple years.

Got that frequency switch from jaycar. All installed works perfectly got 4 wide angle blue and 4 red led's in the dash and have it set to trip at 4k rpm its pretty easy to adjust. I am very pleased with the result.
