funny tap noise when brakes applied
I have an odd tapping noise (just one tap) when I apply the brakes some times. Its as if there is a loose pad and when it touches the disk it go up against the edge of the caliper. does anyone know what this may be. I will have a look on the weekend. There is no loss of braking performance or anything like that. really odd.

Sounds like it could be the spring clips that locate the pads in the calipers.

perhaps nothing to do with brakes at all.
Does it make the noise when you apply brakes when the car is stationary?
If not, then it could be some other suspension component that has come loose and is hitting another part of the car when the car pitches forward when you come to a stop.
Just thinking laterally.
