Does anyone here own one? have experience with one?
I have read several write ups on them, they seem like they work pretty well.
From what I can see of pictures for an NA6 the AFM gets moved to just in front of the motor with a small pipe to the TB.(which is in the kit) What I really wanted to know is can the lower part, that say the air filter sits in and the afm bolts to be turned 180deg to be facing the other way? say to use with a turbo or supercharger that will route the compressed flow in a different direction?
also, I am guessing this sucks air up from over the top of the radiator via the from opening, if you have a cover over that space to help air flow through the radiator it would completely gimp the CAI?
also does anyone know if mx5 panel filters fit this? or do you specifically have to use theirs?
Cheers

Those are a million years old-don't think they're made anymore. Never seen one in real life, but I heard they crack where they're mounted on the leading edge. Use a normal panel filter. The CAI was very expensive, around a grand from the States.

Does anyone have a picture, it would be interesting to see how they have mounted it

No pix, but here's my verbal description - big box with panel filter, fitted sideways behind radiator in front of block. Cover over the top with an opening facing forward. Mounted via bottom edge of opening which is big and extends over radiator.
Similar to the big forward facing K&N intakes fitted to big hp dunnydores (but panel sits horizontally).

not feasible without modification;
the NA8 paper panel filter wouldn't fit all the way due to the grey plastic below the top sealing lip on the two longest sides. you'd either need to modify this, or get a panel filter without the deep plastic sides.

They have thought about flow vrs resistance; you can see where the air hits the furtherst point away from the inlet hole has the least resistance to follow. That as well as providing a direct ram effect of cold air.

thanks for those pics, I see now how it simply wouldnt work, I thought that maybe the bottom piece might have been separate from the filter cover and scoop area, but its obviously all one bit with just the filter cover that comes off.
Still looks like a great intake system to me...anyone got one for sale?

If you wanted to go to the trouble, I think it would be possible to cut the scoop away from the front of the top lip of the bottom half of the airbox & fibreglass it the the other side.
You can still buy them new for US$299.95 plus shipping - not so bad now the A$ has improved:

Bought mine off ebay early this year for just over $200 from someone up in QLD. From memory, it was the first one I'd seen FS in Aust.

AHA! So you were the one who bought it!

I bought another part off that guy. He had quite a nice turbo set-up. I was thinking of buying the JR CAI but didn't think it was feasible as an actual CAI in my car with my OEM radiator redirection plate in place, and I wasn't going to remove that.

Yeah, he was selling the JR CAI together with a high flow cat, but didn't want to separate, so I bought both, & fortunately at the same time, found a buyer (a QLD club member) for the cat.
As you say a redirection plate would need to be removed. Yeah, it sounded like he had quite a good setup.

I wonder how it would perform with the AFM removed, I am thinking about buying a MSPNP with the IAT sensor and removing the AFM.

If you've not already seen the following then it might be worth a look:
viewtopic.php?f=29&t=34991
Essentially, the MSPNP is a considerable spend if you're only seeking to improve air flow by removing the slightly restrictive NA6 AFM. Replacing it with a S4 or S5 RX7 AFM & transplanting the MX5 AFM internals to it would be more economical. However, if you want & will use the headroom the MSPNP will give you to do other things then that's a different story.
