14" stock wheels or 15" Advanti Racing? NA6

Hi Guys.. I am getting a set of Bridgestone Adrenaline RE001's for my stockish NA6.

Now my dilemma is in whether to get them for my 14 x 6 mx5 wheels




Or grab a set to fit my 15 x 6 1/2 dealeo's for these.. i think the offset on these is ET35, plus i have hubcentric rings to fit them to the car if that makes a negative difference??




i want to get whats going to be a better performance base to work off. IE whatever is going to give me best BANG on the Twistie bits and my first Track Day..

The stock ones weigh i think about 12 kilos with tyres and the advantis like 14.. i think.. i will have to go check again.. was like a year ago i weighed them. but it was about 2 kilos difference either way.

I am up for any opinion.. I have just installed a set of Koni Coilovers which once the new tyres go on i will be going to Heasemans or similar for an alignment and set up..

In my opinion I would sell both sets of wheels and buy some nb8a 15's. Fit the tyres to them.

I'm not really a huge fan of either wheel you have but if forced to choose would go for the nb 14's.

Definitely go the 15" Advanti route IF the offset is +35.
I was alot more comfortable doing track work and mountain runs when I had my 14" Advan wheels, +35 offset, with Bridgestone Grid III 185/60 than I was with my NB8A 15" wheels, +42 offset, 195/50 Bridgestone RE001 Adrenalin

In other words, your Advanti's are wider and have a better offset thus relates to better cornering prowess.

Ben, the NB8A wheels are only a 15x6" design. waste of effort getting them. (I only got them for the tyres that were on them at the time)

RED, the Advantis say inside the wheel 15 x 6 1/2 jj ET 35 .. now Offsets confuse me.. Simple mind i know
hence me asking for advice, I thought that maybe having the extra inch width might help, just wasnt sure, if the extra weight would interfere too much or if having smaller wheels would increase turn in etc.. basically i did not want a worse car for extra diameter...

it looks like with the lower profile tyres the 15" isn't much different to the 14" anyways..

Don't want to rain on your parade, but have you read all the reports on the Aussie made RE001's, their not getting any rave reviews!! to put it midly. I'm running jap ones and am quite happy, but there is obviously a massive difference between them. B/J s are selling Kumho KU31 in 195/50/15 for $98 each and from all reports those running them are more than happy including me!!. Something to think about.

If you're going to track it and you want to compete in the stock class (Class A), then you'll need to stick to the factory 14"s. I'll go for the 6 spoke hollow OEM rims found from the NA8s.

But if your car is already modded in some way which disqualifies you from the Class A, then as people have already said, the NB8A's 15" 5 spoke wheels are very good. They're strong, lightweight and the tyres for it are relatively cheap.

But you'll find out that most guys who track their cars, have two sets. One for the track (for function) and one for the road (for individuality and some bling).

Are they really that bad?? how do the Kumho KU31's stack up in the wet?? beacuse i seem to be doing alot of rain driving lately.. haha

For classifications on the different classes on track days, click on the Motorsport section of the MX5 Club of NSW.

But in summary, Class A (stock class) is basically how it left the factory. So with an aftermarket suspension, all depends if they are a complete replacement for the original, running on stock height and are not adjustable, and the sway bars are the same size as the OEMs etc. etc. You'll need to really convince the scrutineers it is stock.

If your car has been lowered and/or the suspension is adjustable, and they are stiffer than OEMs, then that's not considered stock. Again Class A is in the "Spirit" of factory standard settings.

As far as RE001's go on the track, I have aus ones on the back and jap ones on the front. They have both worn exactly the same after 3 track days, no massive chunks missing just nice even wear. They seem to be losing a bit of grip on the street when they are relatively cold, but I'm not surprised after the hell I've put them through on the track.
