Airbag fault codes

Postby Backfire » Fri May 22, 2009 9:08 pm

Hi
Does anyone have access to the 08/2000 on Mazda supplementary workshop manual?
My '01 NB8B is giving a 2 short flash airbag fault code which according to the '99 manual means the module is faulty and needs replacing.
If anyone can confirm this or otherwise I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

Bringing this thread up because after a lot of online searching it seems there's very little online information available regarding the 01-05 NB Airbag system. The '99 onward NB error flash codes are published in various places online, but I have a suspician this pretty simple list doesn't cover 01 - 05. For one thing an extra impact sensor was added up the front of the vehicle in the middle of the radiator support, and there was also the addition of pyrotechnic seatbelt pretensioners to each belt. It seems likely that there would likely be error codes to cover these added parts, but I've been unable to find anything beyond the '99 NB codes. Perhaps it's contained in the August 2000 Suppliment mentioned in the first post.

To make matters more confusing, it appears that the front sensor wasn't added in all markets. For example, one source advised that they weren't used in the UK, but they did add the pyrotechnic seatbelt pretensioners. The front sensor was certainly added in our Aussie NB's, although there seems to be little knowledge of it.

So far I've seen no airbag schematic that includes the later NB added components. The 2000 Maita schematics that are available online contain only the pre 2000 diagrams, and are of no use in diagnosing a later NB. Even the Service manual CD's being sold online as covering '99 - '05 don't cover the later NB Airbag additional components. So it's all very frustrating.

My own problem involves installing a replacement UK market Airbag system to my Aussie '01 NB. While everything plugs in perfectly, and powers up, I get an '7' error flash sequence that indicates a fault in the Passenger side Airbag. Having replaced it with a 2.2ohm resistor as described in service docs, with no change, it indicates something else is wrong. I've spoken to Din, & he assures me that he has installed UK kits in Aussie NB's with no problems. (These may have been pre '2000 though).

So the now question is. Does anyone have any sort of information or diagram of the 01-05 NB Airbag system? Or does anyone have any extra error flash code information for these late NB's?

It would be a great resource to add to the excellent info already available online

Problem solved.... when installing UK market Airbags into a 01-05 NB, the crush zone sensor on the radiator support is disconnected. If connected it will give you a 7 flashes error, a false indication of a fault in the passenger side bag.

And yes, there is an additional list of flash codes for the 01-05 NB, which includes error reports for each seat belt pretensioner, the crush zone sensor, and warning light circuit.

By grounding one of the pins on the SAS module there's also a way to read it's past malfunctions history. There's also a method to clear these past malfunctions called the "Post repair Operation" I don't have the procedure for this, but it sounds interesting....
