Wheel Spacers?

i'm probably going to be buying some really crappy offset, high quality wheels, and i know this topic has been covered, but i can't find the info i need.
i had a bit of a search on ebay, found these.

i understand that all wheel spacers are illegal. i'm not fussed about the legalities of it, but can somebody please confirm this? (with some actual evidence, not just hear-say)
what is the size (gauge?) of MX5 wheel studs?
they're pretty obviously a bad idea to start with, but i'm not very likely to be doing track work anytime soon.
so yeah, i know they're terrible anyway, so recommend me a good set, so i don't end up with ebay ones.
the wheels i'm hopefully buying are 16x7, so i should get a nice amount of clearance with say... 30mm spacers i think.

you dont need spacers for 16x7 wheels. they will fit fine without spacers.

From what I know, all spaces are illegal, slip on and the bolt on.
I dout you will get in trouble. paint them black to match the disk?
16x7 +40 +45? 25mm bolt on spacer wont be a drama. Possibly might just have to roll the edge slightly. 205/45/16

As prevoiusly mentioned they will fit without spaces.
But you want them to sit flush with the guards so your only hope is spaces or the correct wheels.
Reading ur other post looking for wheels and on a budget finding 'good offset' wheels is hard.

basically with a thick spacer as much as 25mm or 30mm the best that are readily available are H&R but be prepared to pay for them. They are top quality and will fit near on perfect as CT will attest to. Another brand you may consider are project kics from japan but these are going to be very pricey too. MX5 mania sell some similar as do just jap. They are called hub centric spacers and are specifically designed for the application and have a ring coming out so that your wheel hub ring will have some purchase. MX5 wheel studs are 12 x 1.5. I am unsure of the total length of them but the hub centric spacers go over your existing studs and have new studs that go out from the spacer its self.

1) The noname eBay ones are more expensive the H&R kits I've seen, so if you are willing to spend that much, then buy H&R

2) I don't understand when you state, "...so i should get a nice amount of clearance..."
Wheel spacers will only CAUSE clearance issues, not solve them (unless you are referring to clearing giant brake discs and calipers)

excellent post mate, just about everything i wanted to know.

i'm talking about getting the wheel itself as far outwards as possible.
i realise that there wont be a strut or brake clearance issue, the clearance i meant to refer to was the clearance between tyre and outer guard. i want that as small as possible, and am more than happy to roll guards to get the fit i want.
the wheels i'm on the verge of decision on are 16x7 +42 B/C P1's.

Why not go for some 6UL's 15x8 +36, then there will be no need for spacers.

why don't you just get wheels with a smaller offset, +35mm will make the wheel track wider by 7mm on each side of the car. than the SF wheels you want.

or get the challenge rims in 15x7 +27mm. that's 15mm wider and a much better looking rim. will handle better also.

if you are prepared to spend $300 per wheel, you might as well get the correct ones for the job. pick one with the correct offset that you require.
