And unfortunately the Natio wont be far behind. They have already deleted all the overtaking opportunities between Garrie Beach and Bald Hill in a vein attempt to slow down the bike riders. There have been several nasty bike crashes in the last few weeks. I came across the aftermath of one on Monday afternoon. It didn't look very good. The bike went head on into a car. The car had a dented bonnet, roof and broken windscreen. No sign of the guy on the bike or the front half of his bike. I have a horrible feeling that I was sitting next to him as I ate my hot dog at Bald Hill. I could assume the bike was going to fast for the corner and ran wide into the car, but there were no centrelines on the road due to road works so the car may have cut the corner and hit the bike. Either way it was very nasty.

Making everyone else suffer for the stupidity of some brain dead fools sucks. I went through the Natio a few weeks ago and I confess that I've done a few brisk laps there in my car/bike in my time but that was the first time I've been scared to go through there. I have never seen so many weekend warriors going so insanely fast. The cops should be patrolling and catching the people going easily well over double the speed limit, not just dropping the speed limits to walking pace. The fools will still be going through there at warp speed but everyone else looses an enjoyable piece of road. They will also be overtaking over the newly created double lines while everyone else has to sit frustrated behind the grannies driving 40kmh under the speed limit.

The Natio is fun but it also bites really hard if you dont treat it with respect. The OPH is a much safer road and is a bit more forgiving. The cop blitz up there has pushed all the weekend warriors away from the OPH and into the Natio creating a very dangerous situation. With the new insanely slow speed limit on the OPH and when they finish resealing the Natio there'll be even more crazies riding even faster on the smooth surface.

During one of the club runs through the Royal National Park (RNP), the convoy came across a bike accident. It was obvious the rider lost it at a very tight corner. The bike was strewn all over the corner with the rider lying still on one side of the road with fellow riders around him/her. It seems it just happened as the ambulance and police haven't even arrived.

Another road that now seems to be frequented by bikers since the OPH has slowed, is McCarrs Creek Road, and Coal and Candle Drive from Terrey Hills. Though it is shorter than both RNP & OPH, it is smoother, just as twisty, and much, much less frequented by the Police.

Sadly, it seems the 'community at large' can be placated by simply lowering speed limits - a low cost bandaid solution that has a higher cost to us all in the long run.

As one of the guys on the other forum said, there are signs saying "falling rocks" though I don't see how going slower will decrease the chances of being hit by such rocks.
