I would have come up with something original to say, but my previous statment fits even better now than it did back then.

The parts alone from MX5Mania are $40 and $45 respectively though... so adding dealership ripoff surcharge it isnt too bad?
But do them yourself... it's quite easy!

The cars paint has clearly been taken care of... Keep it up!

Boots are ordered. just opened up the shifter to change the oil and i think i have found the source of my notchy shifts:

Good oil level eh?

This seems like why:

So every shift/corner means oil is literally pouring out - where should I go for a replacement for the lower plate or will just replacing the boot solve the problem?

Also, found this weird box under the power window switches; no wire plugged in just velcro'd down.. wtf is this thing? a google search of the serial on the back (FCCIDLX3ATCFDS) returned nothing

That box looks like a microwave sensor for the car alarm?

Yep it's a microwave, there should be a plug coming from under the carpet near the dash center console...

It also might be on the drivers side transmission tunnel, so just check under the carpet there.

cool - ill open it up when the boots get here. cant wait - i hate that its off the road. Its so sad to walk past my car to drive mums around, like an MG that spends all of 10% of its life on the road :(

Think the microwave sensor is necessary? Or would it just get annoying? It wont set off the alarm if someone stood next to the car (i.e. in a carpark loading up their own car next to mine) ? I figure a previous owner disconnected it for a reason..?

There is a sensitivity button, so you adjust, when I had mine it would set off if you played around near the headunit area in the centre, though sitting on the seat did not trigger it.

When I first got mine it would set the alarm off when someone walked within 1m, that got really annoying really fast. A decent amount of playing with it got it to the stage where putting your hand in a little bit while the roof was down would trigger the warning beep, getting far enough in to actually grab something would set the real alarm off.
