Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001 vs PP2 vs rest?

Postby Guran » Sun May 17, 2009 4:58 pm

I don't see the need to blindly trust the manufacturer, especially when there are obvious cost savings for them in designing the tyre like this. I'm arguing here is that there is a section of the tread pattern on the driver side that is less able to disperse water than the same section of tread on the passenger side, while the tyres are rotating. The water is likely to get trapped in that sharp v, it can't easily flow into the circumferential sipe, and forcing it back around would be restrictive. This IS a directional tread pattern but Bridgestone are duping people by saying it's not.

Will talk to a bridgestone RND expert and see what they say, the channeling should not be affected in the direction they are facing, as long as the dispersion end of the tread is pointing back and not forward.

Regardless will get back to you, it looks like you won't agree to trust a the design of a trusted manufacture "blindly". So will leave it at that.

I reckon it all comes down to cost.
Regardless of the response from the Bridgstones' R&D department, I'm sure they would prefer to have a left side tyre and a right side tyre.
Unfortunately, doing this would increase costs all across the board. That's why we have a good tyre at a (reasonably) cheap price.

You either like them or you don't, who cares what others think.

Are these prices ok?

205/45R17 84w RE050A $380.00ea
205/45R17 88w RE001 $350.00ea
Pricing includes fitting and balancing if you have any questions please give me a call.

I currently have the RE050A on my car as they came factory. I don't mind using them again.

I'm not really sure about the prices, however with those differences I would go the RE050A's. In my experience (in a ve ss commodore though) they are quite a good tyre.

I would give forumite Cent (Daniel) a call. He works at K mart tyre and auto in Rowville and if you can get out there should be able to get you a really good price on tyres (he did for me)

Have you replaced your tyre recently? If so did you get the RE50A's ?

IBIZA, I have two tyres that are worn to limits on the outside quarter only due track work and my failure to rotate them. I'm putting off replacement for as long as possible since there is still at least 60% tread on the remaining section of those tyres and the other two tyres that are evenly worn.

I'm not sure what to replace them with though. I could just get two RE050As to replace the worn ones ($770 ish) or wait a few more km/months and replace the lot with Michelin PP2 ($1160 ish). I've run both the PP2 and the RE50A now on an NC and IMO they are the same except for price. I'll probably end up with two RE050As - put the difference towards some sway bars perhaps.

I think we may have come across the same problem?

My RE050A's are on 45,000KM today. The inner tyre has so much thread left but the outer tyer has nothing left. If i rotated them and put air in them monthly instead of every 10,000km service I think they would of still been fine for another 15,000 - 20,000km!

I'm not going to make this mistake again!

Provided that toe adjustments are setup correctly, two things will reduce outer edge tyre wear - more negative camber, and higher tyre pressures. I won't suggest that cornering be slowed down though
Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.

Having had RE050A's in the past and currently running RE001's, the RE050A's are a much superior tyre.
Quite a few of my MPS mates dis-liked the noise and price of the RE050A's, but the dry and (IMO most importantly) wet weather grip was excellent.

Thanks all.

I'm going to get the RE050A. As stated before they have been great with me so far, lasted a good 44,000km and would of last more if i looked after them!

Thanks for your help!

IBIZZA,

Check out the 215x45 sizing, you may find it cheaper because it's a more common size.

Charlie Brown wrote:Just had some prices.

PP2 215x45x17 $305

RE001 215x45x17 $183 8)
RE001 225x45x17 $227

and

RE001 205x45x17 (std NC size) $337

I am seriously considering putting my "old" 3,000klm 215x45x17 RE001s up for sale and getting some PP2s. Anyone interested can PM me.

Does anyone have a recent good price on the PP2s (preferably around Sydney)?
