V-Special

Postby davekmoore » Mon May 04, 2009 11:11 pm

Reckon mine's a 91 Japanese V-Special Eunos. Has the tan leather and the Nardi stuff and is dark green. But whereas the V-Special is described as being British Racing Green, mine is a yellower, more olive/puke shade of green on the outside but looks nearer to BRG under the bonnet and boot. The olive really is a horrible colour, but this doesn't matter too much to me as it made the car cheaper and I don't see much of the colour when I'm driving it anyway.

Can anyone tell me what this colour is?

And how much it might be, ignoring any damage prep, to change the external colour only to proper BRG, which I reckon is more a very black green?

Pics?

The steering wheel in my V-Special looks like this...
Image

Does it still have the tan floor mats? Any writing on them?
What colour are the shocks?

Wooden Nardi steering wheel, gearlever knob and handbrake lever. No mats. Dunno about the shocks.

If it's looking a few different shades of green, it may just be that the original paint is starting to show its age

Having the wooden interior trim bits I guess yours is a 1.6 V special?
Refer here

In the case that it isn't a V special...
There were only 2 other greens,

The Sparkle Green of the Berkeley-Edition made for the UK
Image

The Marina Green of the M-Edition made for the US
Image

But these two were strictly 1.8s

Thanks PUR157.

Reckon that Marina Green's the go. Horrible isn't it? And in my 40 years experiance in the car trade, it's not definitely not a faded version of BRG.

But then it'd be badged Miata, not Eunos if it's ex USA????

Is there a site where I can key in the VIN and get the spec?

I can't imagine someone would have bothered importing and converting it to rhd from the states.

The steering wheel being in front of the passenger would be more of a give-away I reckon

No worries!
If yours is a '91 model though it shouldn't be the M edition... because that one was made in '97

Perhaps an overzealous apprentice painter consulted the wrong colour chart when it came time for a respray?
'coz everything else you've described about your car (interior trim) pretty much applied only to the V-Special

Did they make a BRG and tan before 91?

The paint is indeed a shocking colour and is in truly shocking condition too.

The car was well priced off Ebay. Do an advanced search for finished items if you fanc a look. The Melbourne seller described it as BRG but fortunately with good pics so I knew it wasn't BRG and it didn't come as a shock when I saw it.

The thing drives like a dream though. And it's pretty unlikely to get stolen.
